HPC:Factor Microsoft Internet Explorer Distributions

HPC Factor offers recognises that many Handheld PC users rely on legacy operating systems such as Windows 95 to synchronise with their Handheld PC. For the benefit of the Handheld PC community we provide a downloads of Microsoft Internet Explorer legally to users.

HPC Factor is a registered distributor of Microsoft Internet Explorer and as such is able to distribute via our web site Microsoft's browser technology to users. Please be aware that some of the the versions on offer here are not the latest available from the Microsoft web site. These downloads offer owners of legacy operating systems the chance to upgrade their computer to support the highest level of browser technology possible.

These downloads are designed for the host version of Windows, and will not run on Windows CE itself. Many require an existing service pack level on the Operating System to allow the installation to proceed.

Which version of Internet Explorer should you install? That depends on your Operating System and the technologies you select.

If you experience any problems with the install process, i.e. receive File Not found errors from the installer or Unable to connect to Download Server errors please contact us so that we can resolve the problem

All Internet Explorer distributions have minor HPC Factor customisation's. These customisation's are limited to a small group of predefined Internet Favourites which, if required. Can be deleted by the end user.

Our decision to stop offering downloads of our Internet Explorer license is out of financial necessity; if we could avoid it, we would. We do realise that people still require these files, and people looking for Active Desktop under Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95 depend upon our redistributable's to gain that functionality directly from Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or 6.0 SP1 without needing to install Internet Explorer 4.0 first.

As an added incentive, we have enhanced our range of Internet Explorer languages and are offering you the opportunity to buy the set on DVD as an alternative to downloading it. The DVD version includes languages that we do not and have never supported over download! For a full list of versions, compatible operating systems and languages please see the table below.

It has been very difficult to get hold of all of the installer files for the multiple languages of Internet Explorer here in 2009. Microsoft never made all of the language releases available together on one CD - in fact IE 5.5 SP2 on its own is over 1.5 GB and cannot fit on a CD! Once we assembled all of the files, the installer had to be painstakingly rewritten to work off-line as you can no longer use the automation tools to do this. We had to effectively write a software database and tools to create these from scratch, a very slow and painful procedure!

With the addition of the software installer,the total size of all of the Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 SP2, 6.0 SP1, 7.0 and 8.0 installers on the DVD set is 9.52 GB.

In recognition of the time that it took to compile all of these releases into one redistributable, and to help us keep the service at a flat rate, fixed price. We can provide a copy of the DVD for £12.50, shipped anywhere in the world via standard airmail, or £9.99 in the UK. If you would like postal insurance, please add £3.50.

Installation & Testing Note

While we have taken every effort to reconstruct the Microsoft data-sets accurately and properly, we are unable to test install every language combination as (quite simply) we do not have access to every language version of every Windows release back to Windows 3.10.

If you buy, and attempt to install Internet Explorer and find that you receive an error about a missing file, we will help you with the error and make sure that once troubleshooted that you can download the necessary replacement files and install properly.

In creating the DVD we ultimately source all of our files directly from Microsoft, however have discovered that a very small number of Microsoft source files from Windows Update have incorrect Security Certificate Hashes (Microsoft's fault). If you encounter one of these files, we will strive to help find a working replacement if possible.

If the installation issue is ultimately down to the configuration or state of the computer system involved, we will attempt to assist you, however the issue in this case will be with your PC and not the DVD.

Refunds

Refunds cannot be issued once posted. DVD's lost or stolen in the post will not be replaced unless the buyer has postal insurance. Receipts from the post office will be stored.

We can no longer afford to offer free publich download servers for Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 SP2 and 6.0 SP1, however we understand that people have come to rely on these deployments.

If you require one of the redistributions in any of the languages from the DVD list above, but do not require the entire DVD set. We will let you informally download one of the editions if you make a donation to the site of over £1.00* and then e-mail us the details of the edition that you require.
