I'm going to get some of these Prism based cards. They turn the MobilePro into a WiFi built in unit! As soon as I get them I'll try them with the MobilePro 900c and post some more pictures. If everything work good I'll start to sell. Price will be 35 $ shipping cost included.

ah! They come with two external antenna!

I believe Prism 3.0 is not as easy as 2.5 to work with. We'll see how it performs on MP900C.

Before I said I could sell these cards for $ 35 (worldwide shipping cost included), but I did some more research on the Italian Post Office site and found I can send these cards for even a lower price.

So I'll sell them for $ 30 (worldwide shipping cost included) unless you want extra services like track number or insurance. Usually items take about 2/3 weeks to arrive.

But, I repeat that I have still to get these cards and they have to be tested first.

Hi all, the prism card has finally arrived and I have to admit that it works pretty good on Custom Rom v2 (Cmonex v2) with the Prism 3 driver. Later I'll try it on the standard cenet 4.2 rom and let you know the result.

I'll get approximately other 20 cards like that. First 10 will be for sale here on hpcfactor the other 10 will go on eBay (for higher price). Feel free to send me a personal message if you are interested in buying these cards.

p.s. The price is $ 30 (worldwide shipping cost included).

I can confirm that these cards work good on standard CE.NET 4.2 Roms and even on the MobilePros wich run Windows CE 3 (Handheld PC 2000).

Here is a picture of the Wi-Fi panel showing the MobilePro connected.

Dan, I'm curious...you said they come with two external antenna...do you need two or does the signal strength improve with two or are they different in some fashion? Or is there just one antenna and two antenna connectors?

And, are they 802.11B only?

Rich

Rich, each card come with two MMCX external antennas (not sure about how many db each, I'll do some search). Signal strength depends on several factors. For a home LAN you can use 1 antenna (or even no antennas, depending on the router distance, walls, etc.). I can say, according with my experience, that with two antennas I was able to connect to an hotspot at a distance of about 20 meters (not tested, but the antennas signal could reach even a more distant point).

And yes, they are 802.11b

Do these cards do WPA under CE.net? Cmonex mentioned to me that prism chipsets cards would. Also, if i were to buy one from you soon (assuming you still had some) would it get to the UK in time for Christmas? I'm thinking about giving my brother a complete mp900c system as a present, and this would make a nice addition to it...

Hi rbsfou,
these cards do WEP. They should even do WPA but didn't test it. I can't test it now because I already sent the few cards I had. However the other cards should arrive at the end of november. So you should get it in time. As soon as I get the cards I'll let you know.

Thanks.

rbsfou, the WPA option is available on the panel, but my router doesn't support WPA so I can't confirm it does work. Anyway I reserved 1 card for you just in case. If someone who purchased the card will be able to test it I'd be interested in knowing the result as well.

Thanks.

tomboyed check your inbox mail

I still have two of those cards available. They work perfectly but have a little cosmetic problem, not visible when they are plugged in. There is a discount on them: $25 instead of $30.

If somebody is interested just send a PM. I can email a picture of them before buying.

Thanks.

Hi Dan! I've been reading about your cards for a while. I'm a sort of new owner of an Aplux e-diginote running win CE 4.1. Do you think that the card will work in my machine? If so, I'd like to get one...or two, for a Fujitsu Stylisty 3500 that I have...and use a lot. I use them mainly as e-book readers, studying, etc, and as webpads. I'm from Argentina, can you ship it here?...I hope you still have some left.....Thanks in advance Dan!

Hi Dan,

I just wanted to add a quick note that I received your card. I've been very busy lately and have only had a chance to test this out with my Jornada 728. It does work really well with the Jornada though and I am very happy with it. You barely notice it when no antennas are attached. It's also nice to have the extra range when needed with the additional antennas. Thanks Dan! It's a great card.

It could be a momentary server problem..what if you try later and let me know the result? Otherwise I'm willing to remove the "paypal account required" option so that you can bid freely. Although I'm afraid that someone else win the auction and then wants to pay via other payment methods. Let me know

Hi Dan. I've been trying at different times since last saturday or so, and I waited till today thinking that it might be a problem because it wasn't weekday. I tried with Firefox, Internet Explorer, in two different computers.....I now sent an email to paypal to see if they can help me, but the page said that it will take a few days before they answer my email.
Can't you remove the required paypal option, I bid, and then you put it again....Oh man, sorry to cause so much trouble!

I removed the "paypal account required" option for this auction only. I won't restore it so that you can bid as many times as you want freely. As there's the "The payment method accepted is PayPal only." warning on the bottom, I guess it won't be a big issue..

An other card is already up for auction ending in 3 days http://cgi.ebay.com/Built-in-WiFi-card-4-MobilePro-900-900c-Jornada-720-728_W0QQitemZ220190737613QQihZ012QQcategoryZ3311QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I cannot sell with the "Buy it now" option as I need a certain number of feedback before I can use that method

So I've just got other 10 built-in WiFi cards wich you will be able to find on eBay soon.

One of the card has a little cosmetic problem (again ) so it is for sale here for $ 20 (shipping cost included, payment via paypal). This card works perfectly and once plugged in you see no differences in comparison with a card with no cosmetic problems. If you're interested I can send a picture.

I'll include a CD with drivers for HPC2000, CE.net and XP and an installation guide. Of course 2 external antennas are included too.

If someone is interested just send a PM

I would be interested in getting one. I like the fact that it wouldn't stick out like the Ornoco card I am using now. Would it be more powerful than the standard ones? Is the driver easy to install? I had a heck of a time getting the right driver for it. My husband filing figured it out, but it was a big ordeal. Please keep me in the loop.

Hi thanks for your interest. These cards are now available on ebay. With two antennas they are more powerful than an orinoco I own. If you decide to buy it I will provide drivers for CE and an installation tutorial.

ah wait! I'm still waiting for confirmation of the purchase for the card with cosmetic problem, if you want I'll let you know if it's still available.

Cmonex - the one that you used with 4.2 and WPA was that a 2.5 or a 3.0?

Do both work with WPA on ce 4.2?

Thanks.

I think both 2.5 and 3.0 work with WPA otherwise.

Yes, both 2.5 and 3.0 work with WPA. Anyway I am now selling only 3.0 cards. I tried both 2.5 and 3.0 and to me 3.0 cards seem to work a lot better (I know, somebody will have to disagree...). Cmonex has got the 3.0 card too, if I remember correctly.

Scotty, I've attached two pictures showing the two different types of antenna I usually sell along with these cards. Let me know if 1 of each type is ok for you.

Just wanted to inform all the built-in card buyers (old and new) that after a lot of search I finally managed to find a very nice type of antenna which, according with the picture (attached below), seems to match these cards nicely..

I'm going to order 10 of them. 1 of them is for me, the other 9 are for sale here. If anyone is interested in this item just let me know

Hi there, order has been placed and antennas are on their way. As soon as I get them I'll post some detailed pictures.

Below are informations about costs and shipping:

10.55 + 1.35(S&H)= $11.90 (USD)

Only 3 antennas are still available.
If you are interested send a PM.

Yes they'll work
Drivers and installation instructions are included in the package I send. Otherwise you can get the prism driver here on the site in the Support & Tutorials section.

BTW if other people need further informations about these cards, can have a look at the ebay auction which include detailed informations on the item.

Auction Link.

Antennas have finally arrived!

Two points:

1: antennas work well with the MobilePro and they are nice.
2: they fit better if plugged in cards used with Jornadas as the small protrusion of the card lets the antenna
plug better.

That said, here are the pictures:

I wait for confirmation of the purchase and addresses from people who reserved the cards.

Thanks

Dan,

I got the card you sent today along with the r-angle antenna and it works great on my Jornada 728. I need to remember to enter prismnds.dll in the driver blank, when prompted.

I take it the pigtail wire just hangs free? Is there any use for the second connector on the card?

Also, I installed MinistumblerARM.cab and it gives an error "ministumbler performed an illegal operation...". Any suggestions to make it work?

Later I will do a range test compared to the ORiNOCO Gold and see how reception compares here at home.

Thanks for the prompt shipping.

Hal

Hi Hal, I'm glad you like the card! Yes, driver name has to be specified. On the 900/c typing prismnds.dll shouldn't be a problem anymore when Custom Rom 3 will be ready..thanks to Cmonex and her work with pnpd's the card will be just plug and play.

And yeah, the pigtail antenna is an addition (do you remember the extra cents? ). Of course you can plug both the big antenna and the small one at the same moment, the important thing is that when you use only one of them you plug that in the main card connector.
About Ministumbler, are you using the one in the CD?

If I use both antennas will I get improved reception? Guess I could try it and see

I tried the MiniStumbler on your CD and got the error. So went to the stumbler site, downloaded and replaced the initial install with theirs (HPC2000 cab), and get the same error. To see if something in my system is tromping on it, I could do a cold boot, install your wireless, and then Ministumbler errors again, unless there are other suggestions.

Yes. But the most part of the signal reception is provided by the one plugged in the main connector..The second one should just give a little more signal and improve signal quality.

The one in the CD is the same that you downloaded from the stumbler site..I guess that should work out of the box..what if you try executabilitycheck?
Otherwise, yes, a cold boot might work.. let me know.

I think shrinkwrap shouldn't reduce reception, not sure though. I assume you'd use shrinkwrap to attach the antenna to the Jornada?

Dan, The shrinkwrap I was referring to would be to tidy-up the exposed horizontal part of the natenna in the pic here. I could try elec tape first and see if there is a difference. Thanks.

Hi Hal, sorry for the late reply, but I had to contrive something nice for your need..When I got the 5dBi antennas I felt myself the need to tidy up the antenna cables and originally cut the black cable as there was no need for that one (I guess that is kind of adapter for others connectors). But you might not be willing to cut the black cable of your just purchased antenna, so here are two customized models of the antenna which seem good to me. The third antenna is a standard one, just to see the difference.

For the first model I simply used a straw (maybe a black one would be better, in this case..), while for the second one I used the covering of an electrical black cable and a thin strip of electrical tape to join the two antenna cables.

Hope this is a good input for you.

Dan

I have two things to say. The first is that I've put some stuff on eBay. For people who are interested here is the link: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZad.eu
You might notice that I've reduced the cost of the built-in cards, so It goes without saying that no more discounts are available. I also created separate auctions for the antennas.

The second is a special request. About a year ago I found a particular type of WiFi card, which according with the forum users' taste was quite an innovative card as no external parts were visible once the card was inserted in some handheld devices.

Now almost a year has gone since I found these cards, 49 cards have been sold (both here, in the hpcbay, and on eBay) and the original thread of these cards is still active and visible in the top 30 of the hpcbay threads with 94 replies and almost 9000 views.

To celebrate the 50th card sold I would like to get one of these cards reviewed. Untill a few days ago it was an impossible task as no brand/model was on top of these cards. Fortunately among the last 15 cards I got, there are three which have a label on them!

So I would be glad to give one of these cards for free to any of the hpcfactor users willing to review it.
Just two requirements:

1-At least 300 posts
2-Good knowledge of English

If interested just send a PM!
