As obtaining serial cables for the older devices is becoming harder and harder in modern times, Infrared Synchronisation is becoming more and more important as a means to keep connected.

There have been a lot of people looking for information on how to do this with Windows CE, and I have spent some time and worked out a guide on doing this with Windows CE 1.0 and a HPSIR based Infrared adapter.

I am not sure at this stage what the repercussions of this are on anyone using a USB adapter. So please let me know here in the thread how you get on, good and bad.

Windows 95, 98, 98SE:

(It may work on Millennium if you muddle through differences)

Windows 2000, XP, 2003:

Please do not create any new threads on Windows CE 1.0x IR sync.

OK, I had a rake about and found a notebook with both 2000 and XP on them. I have carried out some experiments and I am afraid that the news isn't good.

See the Windows 2000, XP, 2003 link in the first post. Sorry folks.

I am not feeling machochistic enough right now to deal with the Windows Millennium CESD.

Hey, the addendum in the CESDC0021 is a bit confusing. it doesnt make clear if it is possible and this topic become more confusing as we dont know if these tests were made before or after this addendum. I would like to know if it works, and if yes, I want to buy one.

The information is hypothetical (as stated) and would require a developer / third party layer to exploit it. If it were known to work the article would have been modified.

Incidentally, all CESD's as well as forum posts are date stamped

ok =-)
thanks anyway
Im thinking on developing for running on the device, so it gives the PC a map of the device and perform series of operations. If I could do this, we could have a open source H/PC Explorer =-)
