- and it's a standalone program, not a Java midlet as in previous versions:

http://www.opera.com/mini/next/

The executable file's OS shows as 4.2, so I tried it on my Stylistic. It loads, but then seems to get stuck on the next screen, which has nothing but a red "Opera Mini" title bar on top and no menus. Can anyone else get it working?

Uh, maybe by tapping on "Download" right next to the words "Opera Mini 5 beta"?

Same result on my ViewSonic V212.

This seems as good a place as any to ask: On the Opera site it says "for Windows Mobile 5- and 6- based handsets." Is that the same thing as CE 5 or 6? If I buy the CE5.0 netbook I'm looking at should Opera work on it? Opera's my browser of choice on other computers so it'd be nice to use it on the portable as well.

I still fail to find download links to something other than .jar and .jad.

How about here:

http://www.opera.com/mini/download/pc/

Dana, as I said above, the OS version of the executable file shows as 4.2. (I checked this in a hexeditor.) So it should work in a core CE 4.2 .net device as well as a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 2003 first edition. (BTW, WM 5.0 is based on CE 5.01, and WM 6.0 is based on CE 5.02.)

<expletive deleted>... I was exactly at that page, but didn't see anything referring to WM... Will try that.

Edited by CE Geek - please tone down the language a bit. Don't want to give an old man like me a heart attack.

CE Geek, how did you manage to get Opera installed?

I dowmloaded it from the link you posted but when I tap it to install it says the famous phrase "..it is not a valid Windows CE application"!

I extracted the CAB file using MSCEInf on my PC, and then copied the resulting folder over to the CE device.

This may not be the issue, but did you try making sure a SIP is installed, or otherwise using WinWatch to change the size of the window?

Well, the two devices I tried are tablets, so yeah, there's a SIP installed on both.

I don't think WinWatch will make a difference - the program's interface just appears to wrap to the display size. The Stylistic is XGA (1024x768), while the V212 is SVGA (800x600).

I downloaded it and it downloaded as a CAB file. However, when I try to run it on the CE6 netbook, I get, "mini5wm.cab is not a valid windows ce setup file." Any suggestions?
