Hi all. I am new to windows CE development and application. From HPC I learned that for starting I needed to install the embedded VC++ 4.0, which I downloaded from the MS site. When I tried to install it on my computer (runs on XP) first I got the message:
the software you are installing for this hardware: Virtual PC Application Services has not passed Windows Log testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. I overrided it to continue installation. Then in the process I got the message: Internal Error 2738. and it was followed by the message:
Microsoft windows CE Platform Manger 4.0 Setup failed.
Any hint to what might have been the problem. Thanks in advance.

Odd... eVC 4 was designed for XP...

Try running it in XP SP1 compatibility mode. Don't foget to service pack it after you get it installed.

Right click on the setup file that you install eVC4. Click properties, and then click the compatibility tab->then check the box and click XP service pack 1..

Let us know if that works..

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I went on to select the OS from the compatibility tab. It provided me with 4 options: 1. windows 95, 2. windows 98/windows Me, 3. windows NT 4.0 (SP5), 4. Windows 2000. No XP windows option was present. I selected the Windows 2000(the latest) and got the message:
Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for the eMbedded VC++4 installation. The installation Wizard now installs a supported service pack. Installation of the SP2 will require you to reboot your computer. When your system restarts, the installation wizard will automatically restart and continue. Would you like to continue?yes/no. When I clicked on yes, I got this message.
Error Launching "WIN2Ksp2\w2ksp2.exe"

Are you using XP SP3 and is it patched?

C:Amie, could it be this?

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1331

There's an Apple support article, but hear me out, it is the exact same error code.. A vbscript problem it had said. It lists on how to re-register the runtime and/or download and reinstall.

Below is the one Apple lists as the problem, which seems very much similar to what Esmat described..
Quote

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2738."

Basically, click start menu button and go to run and type in 'winver' without quotes or go to this link below for pictures:

http://www.winxptutor.com/sp2check.htm

Let us know what service pack it lists..

(if you don't have run, you can press the windows key (the one between control and alt usually) and hit r at the same time.))

torch, yes the error code is a vbs error, what I want to get by asking for versions is the native WSH parser version.

Esmat, to that end are you running IE 6, 7 or 8?
