Hello,
I want again to ask for your help!
Yesterday, after having to operate my wm8505 netbook for about a month, it didn't load the device drivers . After many attempts with various files, I manage to restore it. But now, I have no sound. I found another file that when I tried it the sound was ok but there was a disk error and I could only use it with sd card. Thus, it was not an option.
Is there a way to have my sound back?
Sorry for my english,
PS I have no technical nor programming knowlege but i can follow instructions!!

The Sylvania reflash package seems to be the most reliable, since it adds the step of "erasing" the NAND storage area:

Click on the "Downloads" tab and then on the link for the OS update. (The link still works even though it's in the Wayback Machine.)

Thanks for the script file, i will try it in the weekend and let you know....
The script I have currently (no sound, bad battery indicator) also had the step of "erasing" the NAND storage area. Why is that important? The fact that I don't have sound is because of the drivers? If so, is there a way to change them only?
Thanks for your time!!

I'm not sure, but I think the sound driver in some of those ROMs is incompatible with the particular sound hardware in some of the other WM8505 netbooks. In other words, not all of these netbooks have the same sound cards.

Thanx for the current link, Rich. I couldn't find a download link for the ROM update on the current Digital Gadgets page for the Sylvania netbook.

Hi Folks,

I posted a similar inquiry just a moment ago... here is what I have:

The "no sound" part is where my interest comes in... I believe that the change in RED in the "script" file below is needed; however, all of the editing techniques that I have tried leave the script file in a state that it is ignored upon trying to reboot. Do you have any suggestions? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

J

script file exerpt:

'V|U÷WL¼/S
‹ ˆ¨»ïScript Created by Win32
ƒ setenv lcdparam 1,30000,8,800,480,48,40,40,3,29,13,d8110508|10,d8110504|10,d8110500|10
setenv board_name WM8505_YaZhongXun+ES8328+cs7146
setenv TouchIC 0
setenv NoBootProgressBar 0
setenv NoBootInformation 0
setenv adcbasevolt 2500
setenv battery.ic cs7146
setenv battvoltlist 6830,7286,7410,7503,7575,7636,7720,7861,7953,8018,8190
setenv bLowVoltShutdown 1
setenv audio.recordselect LineIn
setenv audio.gpio 3
setenv audio.ic ES8328 ES8328 must be changed to VT1613
setenv pwmparam 0,25,100,90,98,38,8,0,27

PS:

The script and all the trimmings are from WinCE.rar found here:

http://netbook.poodwaddle.com/

It seems to have the most Windows-like features that I have found, but does a setenv for a sound chip that is different from my hardware...
BTW: can I overwrite the setenv command parameter in the already running OS? That would seemingly be quick and easy.

Thanks again,

J

Years have passed.

Just I want to add what I suppose could help to get the scriptcmd modified:
use the mkimage tools on a Linux system.

But I have not ( yet ) tried the change of setenv mentioned to VT1613
and am not sure whether I have enough experience with setting the parameters
as necessary on the mkimage command.

Just to let you know that more than 4 years later the sylvania image still works. But it needs to get reflashed periodically ( I keep all my programs and files in a usb) and I don´t understand why...

I've noticed that with a couple of my Sylvanias. I guess one of the system files gets corrupted after a while and won't execute.
