Hi, I have acquire this Vadem Clio C-1050 which is working and I want to know if:

it can be upgraded to the latest windows CE by software or if there is a ROM with the latest version that I might acquire.

I believe the version of Internet Explorer built in will not go anywhere. The unit can be still use for something else but without internet connectivity I think it is useless.

How big a Compact Flash Card can I place inside this unit?
Anyone with answers would be very appreciated.
thanks

P.S. I wasn't able to find a "search" option so I could have found all the answers I need.

Like all CE 2.11 and earlier devices, the Clio's OS is on a non-flashable ROM chip, meaning that the OS can only be upgraded by replacing the ROM chip by one supplied by the manufacturer with the newer OS. The Clio was designed with a chip that can be replaced; however, neither Vadem nor its successor MainStreet Networks ever came out with a newer OS ROM chip.

While the Clio is an outdated device, there are many programs that can be run on it, including some originally written for Pocket PCs. For my review of this device, see this page:

I still go online with my CE2.11 machines, including the Clio 1050C. I can even (at least the last time I tried) display normal (non-mobile) Google Images, by first going to a mobile version of Google and clicking on Classic view. My approach with this machine is to put programs on a 1GB CF card (and also use the card as storage space for pics, text files and all). My main additional programs are UltraG image viewer and Worldtalk browser. Worldtalk is an excellent complement where IE is lacking; it can save images off the web in their original format. The Clio 1050C can be a really unique retro laptop...which makes it unfortunate batteries aren't available nowadays for it.

Thank you for all the information. It is very helpful. I am glad that there is still a way to surf the internet. I will find the program and I suppose that the standard way to install program in windows is to be followed.

One last question I know that you use a CFC (1 Gig) can this unit take a 8Gig?

with all the information from you all guys:

Face it, C:Amie, people are gonna keep calling you "Amie" as long as you're still running this site.

The Clio should read an 8 GB CF card without a problem, as long as the card is formatted to FAT32 rather than FAT. The second page linked by C:Amie gives all the details.
