"My Mobilepro" says that a 790's ROM chip can be put in an 880 which upgrades it to CE 3 but disables the USB port.

Are there pics of the hybrid in action?

What would you like to see? There really is little difference except that you are CE3/HPC2000 rather than CE2.11/HPCPro when it boots up.

You lose the USB port, but gain a newer OS and a little better browser. And a lot of software compatibility as there is quite a bit more for HPC2000 than HPCPro.

Lots of posts about the conversion here on HPCFactor.

HERE IS A SCREENSHOT OF HPC2000 ON AN 880

Just out of interest and apologies for asking obvious questions, but has someone at some point or another actually dumped the HCI/HID drivers from the 2.11 ROM and tried to force load them on 3.00?

Yes, and it won't work because it is more involved than just the USB drivers....within the kernel itself is low-level hardware support for the port that is otherwise not accessible, and is not present in the 790 ROM.

What about other files? I'd like to get hold of the RichInk DLLs (inkx.dll, richink.dll, etc), the POOM DLLs, and other stuff like the World Clock app for my MIPS CE 5 devices.

LOL

I'm talking about the files needed for InkWriter (inkx.dll, richink.dll, office.dll, inkwres.dll, ixresdll.dll, riresdll.dll, and stink.dll [yes, that's the actual name of the DLL ] plus InkWriter.exe).
