Does anyone know the pin out allocation for the seven contacts on the IBM WorkPad Z50 Li-Ion main battery?
I would like to attempt to 'jump start it' without having to take it apart.
It does not take a charge, although ibmdiag passes it.

If you do that...you take a big chance that you will fry the protection circuitry inside the battery pack...rendering it useless for rebuild.

Open the battery pack and apply your charging voltage to the cells directly, bypassing the circuitry...

You do realise that if you shock charge a degraded lithium cell, its liable to explode, right?

There is always that chance...and there is always a chance to recover it as well...best way is to use a regulated variable power supply and slowly apply DC voltage and see if it gets warm...

Actually, if you go to the problem to open up the battery pack, you might as well just simply rebuild the pack with new cells...

Thats if you happen to have any spare li-ion cells lying around, which unfortunately I dont!
Thanks for everyones feedback. I think Ill just wait to see if a new Li-ion battery pack or a z50 appears on ebay.
From experience its very difficult to open battery packs and even harder to close them again in such a way they clip into the laptop.

LOL, did you get that idea from the hospitals where they 'jump-start' the patient's heart when in critical condition?.I wonder if you could also jump-start an old woman and make her young and sexy again,

I would suggest you separate the cells (if more than one), and use an external charger to charge them separately. Chances are you will find that not all the cells are 'dead' yet.
Since they are connected in series, one bad cell may even stop the others from accepting charge.
My experience is with 18650 cells, that don't perform well when charged in series of two inside a battery pack(using the internal charging circuit), but if taken out and charged individually(using an external charger), then put back into the battery pack, they lasts a lot more longer(up to 3 times).
