| I know this isn't a Windows Phone forum but the WP& forums I used to visit seems to be gone.
A few days ago, without me having done any updates to the phone, the search app that had always been built in is gone and clicking the search button just takes me to bing.com in Internet Explorer, this means I no longer have music or camera searches.
Is it just me and how dare they remove apps from my phone just like that?
Thanks |

| I don't know which search app you are using, but is it possible that the search app was acquired by Microsoft / Bing?
I remember in Android, I downloaded a search app, and I think it was acquired by IBM if I remember correctly, and it just redirected to their site.
But yeah, that is indeed frustrating.

| This is the built in search app that comes with Windows Phone and is "hard wired" to the search button printed on the phone, this isn't an app I installed.
I think the most logical reason is thay assume no one is still using a Windows Phone 7 and they disabled its search services, and the likely reason no one else is complaining online is I may be the only one still using a Windows Phone 7.

| I see.
Well, just wondering, but the if default search service wasn't bing, what was it? I'm curious.

I may be the only one still using a Windows Phone 7.
That would mean more people are still using CE than are using WP7 (which isn't based on a CE core ). Who'da thunk it? |

Oh sorry I missed reading that the search doesn't search music camera anymore. That is crazy! Edited by stingraze 2015-09-03 8:48 AM

| Curious...can you perform a search using a wildcard and specifying the file extension? Something like *.jpg? |

This was an Internet search app, not for searching local content.
The search provider was Bing before also, but the app offered to search for playing music (like Shazam but built into Windows Phone ), for objects or tect on objects the camera was pointing at and QR codes, all these features are gone. I confirmed that the same happened to other Windows Phone 7 users.

| Evidently the phone updated the search app...maybe you could uninstall an update of it and bring it back to where it was.... |

Wrong. |

| Also, is this the original rom? If so, you should probably bail on it anyway, with or without the search. XDA Developers, I'm almost sure, has a forum of custom roms for your phone. For my WinMo phone (6.53), I always used someone else's cooking.

Wrong.
You're right. I assumed it was a completely different OS because of the different executable format (XAP ). |

.XAP seems to be a ZIP file with many other files. Like, a .dmg program for MacOS is not an actual executable.
I bet on that WP7 does use PE/COFF as usual. Edited by Alt Bass 2015-09-18 8:46 PM

| Since this app was essentially web based, and my phone can't do updates by itself like the newer ones, it's not an update to my phone that removed it, but updates to the server from which it ran from, so even if I could go back to an older version I still wouldn't get the app back. The only solution is to upgrade to a newer model which I'll eventually do.
