Desktop icon colour settings?

Hi, this isn't a major problem, but it is annoying. i recently updated my Sylvania HPC (it runs Windows CE 6.0), and now the desktop icon text colour is a horrible, super-hard to read brown.
Are there any registry settings which could change this? I'd be very grateful!

The icon colors and design are part of the executable file. They are not something you can edit or change in Windows CE. Evidently your firmware flash that you used was not designed for the Sylvania.

Or if it was, something went wrong and you might have to try to reinstall it.

Thanks for the reply. I believe the horrible colour is present on other peoples Sylvania netbooks, so it's probably not that. I might try comparing the old and new OS versions, maybe I can find a hint to
it.

There are four versions of the Sylvania CE 6 ROM, and only one produces this color of icon text.

However, SQ or DesktopCol may solve this problem:

There is also an alternate skin package that modifies the icons and adjoining text. Both this and DesktopCol can be found near the bottom of this page:

Look for the subheading "shell/gui stuff."

Other shell packages can be found here:

Try the ones on the bottom.

It's also theoretically possible to create a modified CE desktop on these netbooks with MioPocket, though this is recommended for advanced users only:

Thanks for your quick response, I'll try out all of those programs you mentioned. I've heard Wisbar or some of the other skinning programs cause problems only a cold reboot could solve, is that true, and how can I avoid that?
But regarding the Sylvania ROM images, do you know the latest version? Because I asked a bunch of other people for the newest version, they were all different.

Just two CE versions, Rich - 8505 with CE 6 and 8650 with Windows Embedded Compact 7.

The one with the YouTube fix is the newest AFAIK. (I need to upload that one and the "New Shell" version to H/PC:Update here, since we don't have them there yet. The "New Shell" version is the one with the set of buttons covering the taskbar, which everyone here hates. But a simple tweak eliminates that and restores the CE taskbar. The fourth version is the original one that the devices shipped with.)

Yeah, the on with the gross shell is the one I've got. As I'm used to twiddling with Windows CE, I disabled that utterly horrible taskbar. . . DGSHELL.EXE, I believe.
What do you mean by Youtube fix? Is it version 1.17? Do you have a link to it? Thanks in advance

Ok, cool, thanks! But I can't find any Youtube related files in that image! Is it done with the flashplayer? Is this the newest version? (Newer than the one with the crappy shell)
Excuse my many questions. . .

AFAIK it's the newest version. I assume the YouTube files are somewhere inside normal_nk.nb0. (I don't know how useful that app is nowadays anyway - I don't think it can convert the format of recently-uploaded videos on YouTube.)

That's what I meant, I extracted the nb0 file, but it doesn't contain anything YouTube related. Might be a flash player, tho

Hi, decided to bump up this thread because I found some more information: The color is not set from the executables, but is stored in registry, at HKEY_LOcAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE, it's a binary value called SysColor.
Could somebody maybe find out the default value for this string and maybe post the contents of it? That would be awesome
Thanks a lot!!
