Hi folks!
My Windows CE 5.0 device (it's MIPS) lacks the vital WCELOAD.EXE cab installer. I did eventually get my hands on a copy of the program, but whenever I want to install a CAB file, I have to open the command line and specify the files location.
That's pretty annoying, is there a shortcut? Maye a batch file or some sort of registry entry?
By the way, the location of wceload.exe is \USBDisk\Program Files\WCELOAD\wceload.exe

Thanks guys

Try moving it to the Windows folder and reboot.

If that doesn't work, you might have to enter a few registry entries...read this post HERE

Moving things to the Windows folder or anything to do with rebooting is not an option, as the registry and the \Windows folder aren't persistent on my device. To add persistent registry entries I have to edit the NK.NB0 file and flash it onto the device.
Hm, I didn't find anything useful at that post you mentioned. Thanks for helping anyway

Oh...I hate those non-persistent things...

Seems one device I had that was like that had a separate Windows folder you could place things to keep them...that is there was a Windows folder in the volitile area and another in the hard disk area...be sure you go to the folder options and make the hidden and system files visible...

On the device there is actually no persistence at all, I had to build in a USB drive add change the shell folders to a location on the USB drive.
I think you just missed my point a bit I'm looking for a registry entry to open CAB files with the wceload.exe on the USB drive, I faintly remember something like [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cabfile\shell\open\command] dword=wceload %1 or something like that

Maybe you'll share the solution with the rest of us, so others will know how to address this issue if they face it.

Sure! I'd love helping others in this problem, is it is known to cause immense frustration. As it's pretty much to do, is there a way to add it as some kind of tutorial somewhere?

Sure, just type it up and send it to one of the administrators for submission as a CESD on HPCFactor...
