| Okay, playing with the PI & Raspbian to make sure everything works before I start designing the case. Good thing too, cause the display runs upside down from what I expected!
The keyboard is too small. I have a new one coming, hopefully this week. And since it's a touchscreen I can get rid of the mouse... I'm not showing the powersouce in this pic, but I have a 5200mAh battery bank that I am going to try to integrate...

| I'm a little discouraged tonight. The remaining bits and pieces came it, so I test assembled them to get a feel for the size, etc.
I'm not real happy with the size. It's not pocket-able, and I knew it wouldn't be. But it's also got wires hanging all over the place.
It's an in-between size that is not real good for touch typing... too small for touch typing and too big for the pocket.
Maybe I need to go back to ebay for a vintage HPC.

| Guys, take a look at my rig, custom built by me with a lil 3.5" touchscreen. Full onscreen keyboard and stylus! Even has a tiny fan

| Okay, I thought about it a little more... went back to the smaller keyboard, ditched the power cable for the battery, and lost the ethernet cable. (The PI has wifi! )
I'm liking it better already.
I ran the octane test, and my score is 2767. It's pretty slow, about 1/10 of my desktop PC.
I still have to see if there is a smaller screen without the hdmi hat.

| And this is what it looks like when you're on a really low budget ( < $110 including the tablet ) and want a Handheld PC like format.
Not bad since the keyboard cost 350 yen + shipping of 200yen, so 4.81USD! :- )
Sort of like this tablet mentioned in this thread.
The tablet is Kindle Fire HD 6 8GB.
The Kindle Fire HD has a microUSB host, so it can connect to this keyboard.
The keyboard feels nice considering its price.

| Man, this is my kinda thread! I've talked about doing this previously but you're actually doing it! Nice.
The 900/c is my "go-to" device when I don't want to lug around my MBA or a tablet+keyboard. I liked netbooks when they came out, I hoped they'd grow into a modern HPC but instead they died out and tablets (ugh!) took over. The reason why so many liked HPC's was for the fact that it was "instant on". No boot times, just wham bam thank you ma'am.
Anyway, will be paying close attention to this thread.

3d Printing a Raspberry PI didn't work for me. It was still too big and bulky, didn't fit in my pocket, and browsing was way too slow.
All that could change some day when the SBCs improve. They are already improving. Look at the Tinkerboard for example. Or the UDOO.
Meanwhile to hold me over, I grabbed an ASUS Z8 with 3G/4GLTE and a Zagg Keyboard, and put together something that fits in my pocket.

| stingraze, that looks like what I've done with some of the 7" tablets that I've reflashed with WEC 7 or CE 6. I've also used a couple of those little wireless keyboard/touchpads like mikeschn has. |

That's good to hear!
Except the problem I had with my keyboard after some casual use is that the space bar got stuck!
Oh well. I guess I should have bought a better keyboard. |

| Here's an interesting new Raspberry PI Zero. It's not so much new, but rather, it adds wifi and bluetooth to the existing Zero board. But it's still cheap, relatively speaking... $10.

This could make a really cheap hand held PC, but alas, it's still not very fast when surfing the web.
I am still researching SBC's, and hope that 2017 brings something that will work well for a handheld PC. So far the Tinkerboard and the UDOO are as good as it gets. Did I miss anything?
