HDMI stick

With everyone trying to invent a better mousetrap, anyone besides me use an HDMI stick?

Mine is some generic Chinese eBay knockoff that works amazingly well. If you remember from early posts, years ago I used my AMD 50x15 to turn my dumb tv into a smarter one. Then came a succession of thin clients. They ran faster and took less power.

Well my latest toy was $59 in an auction that only I and 2 other bidders tangled for...I won!

It is about twice the size of an USB memory stick. It has 2Gb of RAM and 32Gb of storage. The manufacturer calls it an SSD, but it is nowhere near that fast writing. More like your 4200 rpm laptop drive. It has built in wifi and a mico-SD slot. It also came with a remote that has a Jornada size keyboard with a laptop style touchpad that connects via Bluetooth.

What I find amazing is I have a full blown computer running a version of Windows 10 smaller than a peanut butter sandwich. You just plug it into any HDMI port on your tv, sit back in your Lazyboy, and surf the web, stream video (doesn't work so great with some porn sites with all the massive popups), or even play games (I installed Red Alert 2 that plays full speed fine). So much better browsing than using the limited browsers built into smart tvs.

Nice! I looked at one for awhile but never pulled the trigger on it. I did end up buying a MHL - HDMI adapter to connect my ancient Google Nexus smartphone to my 'stupid' tv. It worked well but nothing I'd want to do for more than a short period.
