You guys have probably already seen something like this put together, eg stingraze 6" kindle fire, but I thought I'd share anyways.

Background: The Raspberry Pi wasn't working out. It didn't fit in the pocket, it didn't have 3G or 4G, and surfing was really slow.

So I pulled an Alan Greenspan (remember him?) and soaked in a hot tub... until the answers came.

I ended up getting an 8" Zenpad Z8 with a 2048x 1536 display. It's really gorgeous. And it has a 3G 4G connection via Verizon built in. And it fits in my pocket of my dockers. So we are off to a good start.

Next I had to come up with a keyboard. Turns out Verizon had one of the Zagg keyboards, complete with the backlit keys. So I grabbed on of those. And it still fits in my pocket, albeit barely!

Next I had to work on the apps, and that's still a work in progress. I can talk more about that another time.

Meanwhile, how much better is this than a Jornada running WinCE. Quite a bit I would say. Let me go grab a couple pictures.

Mike...

The beauty of using Android OS on this, is that the icons are properly sized for this display. Those of you who have tried to use Windows, or even Linux on such a small display know exactly what I am talking about.

You'd really like the display too. But my uploads are limited to less than 100k. Not much I can do to show off the high resolution...

Does your kindle fire 6 fit in your pocket? http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=18200&po...

Mike...

P.S. I've looked at the clamshells in Walmart, and they are not even in the same ballpark...

My Kindle Fire 6 fits in my jeans pocket, I think, although I never tried because I fear I might break the screen.
(I broke a Cassiopeia E-700WE's screen long time ago)

Yes, the display looks beautiful!

After using the keyboard mentioned in this Thread for some time, I had to throw the keyboard away because the space bar was not working correctly... You get what you pay for, i guess. sigh...

Did you Jailbreak your Kindle 6? Can you surf the web with it?

Actually, no, since I sometimes use my Kindle 6 to read Kindle books. (Some Japanese hacker manga and some English books about information retrieval etc.) I don't feel like messing up with this device.

Yes, I can surf the web, but it's creepy to think amazon's Silk getting all information about where I visit...

I usually use Chrome on Android, sometimes Opera.
My most trusted tablet at the moment is iPad mini 2 (Retina). It's running iOS 10.2 but not too slow!

ah, the mini 2, 7.9". That's just about the size of my Z8. And both have retina displays! That's why you like it.

Getting all information about where you visit. That's Pandora's box you know. We'd have to talk about Google, Apple and Microsoft too. And it gets worse. But then, you already know that! And there is no fix.

Have you ever played with Chromebooks?

Yeah, it gets down to the things Snowden revealed...

Yes, I've played with Chromebook in San Francisco airport back in 2011.

Recently, I was actually thinking of either buying a Pixel Chromebook or an iPad Pro.

I've owned an iPad Pro in the past, but it was a little heavy for me to use... I guess the smart choice is to buy the Pixel. (All I really need is something like Sublime Text and ssh client for it)

Sting,

I have the iPad Pro with the Zagg keyboard. It weighs a ton! I'll be putting that on ebay shortly.

I just picked up the new Asus 12.5" Flip 2 C302 Chromebook. It doesn't run android apps yet, but it will. And when it does, that should be a real sweet package. I'm testing the concept on a 10" Asus Flip, and it's pretty good!

If all you need is a good text editor and SSH a chromebook with android apps will give you that. Of course, there's a million more android apps you can play with!

Cool...

I think I will try to buy a Pixel in amazon.co.jp soon. :-)
It's good to know from you that Andromeda (Is this the one you're talking about) is coming out to enable Chromebook to have Android apps! I didn't know about that. Thanks!

Pixel 3 might be coming out sometime this year, rumors say... But I can't wait THAT long lol.

What's hot right now... Samsung Plus & Samsung Pro, and Asus Flip 2 C302.

Now, if they would come out with a tiny chromebook that fits in your pocket, and runs android apps, I think we will have come around full circle!

Yes, I agree.

Thank you for telling me what's hot!
Mmm.... makes me want to think carefully about making my mind.

The good thing with Pixel, which I am thinking of getting is that it can run Linux / Windows too if I want.
The only downside is it's made in 2013, but it's not TOO old!

Chromebook Flip 2 is hard to get here in Japan.

Btw, these are some pictures I took of the Chromebook back in 2011 in SFO.

I looked at your pictures. You were still in the Chromebook universe with the Webstore. If you have access to a Chromebook, get on the canary channel, and load up the Playstore. It's a world of difference.

Yes, the Flip 2 and the SamsungPlus/Pro are going to be hard to get right now. They are just coming out, and the pro won't be out until April.

The Pixel looks like a fine machine. It was way ahead of it's time. I don't know what the current cost is for a Pixel, but the Flip 2 and SamsungPlus/Pro should be about 1/2 or even less what the Pixel was when it was new.
