I got this machine two weeks ago and have been putting it through its paces. It's a fine device.

Start with the cons first: weird keyboard layout (I reversed the Delete and Backspace keys) and the keys need to be struck in their middle, especially the space bar which is oddly split into two sections.

Wags over at reddit have done amazing things to get Linux, particularly Ubuntu flavors, up and running. But crackling audio remains an issue along with USB-C data. Still, their work far surpasses GPD's own Linux efforts. A gentleman named Hans in particular is producing kernel after custom kernel. So I think Linux will eventually be fine.

Positives: this machine is so much fun. It looks like a Macbook that's been hit by a shrink ray. The aluminum casing is first-rate and should they fix the keyboard issues, the physical keyboard itself is fine. Screen is sharp, Win10 allows Netflix downloads, so video watching on long trips is a real thing, given the excellent battery life, especially in airplane mode.

Only one usb-A port and one usb-C port (you'll want more, since there's no sd slot) and a usb modem drains the battery with alarming speed. That said, tethering my Nokia E7 through a usb wifi adapter (internal sdio wifi won't do ad hoc) has negligible battery effect.

2nd generation Pocket runs much cooler. Fan comes on only during intensive CPU work. No glitches with Win10 Home; though there are complaints about weak wifi, I've found the stock drivers to be fine.

I use the machine all the time and to save screen space, I finally figured out how to use Serious Samurize so I can run date/time/cpu temp/uptime/battery percentage across all Window title bars, allowing the task bar to remain constantly hidden: http://imgur.com/a/IMfBZ

It's expensive, especially through Amazon, but it's been a long time since I've been truly excited about a small device.

I can't help feeling it's a bit underdesigned. They could have made the display fill more of the real estate up top, and designed the keyboard to conform to the conventions set by the Model M - Helvetica font aligned to the top left corner of each key. There was a logic behind the 640x240 form factor, it allowed the keyboard to be scaled down without disrupting proportions, but that's exactly what's happened here as they left themselves no room for a Tab key in the proper place, and they had to dump a load of leftover keys on the top row. It's a mess.

No arguments here. The keyboard is, uh, unique. The Sony Vaio was almost as maddening, what with its weirdly-placed shift keys, model after model. As for the Pocket print key, I'm not certain it's even set. Win-Prn takes screenshot, but Prn alone does nothing. I'm thinking about keycoding it to a wifi toggle (which the machine is also missing). They should've looked harder at the Psion and Jornada layouts.

But you do get used to it...
