Not a Willie Nelson plug...

I recently bought a used pickup truck. I've actually been searching eBay and Craigslist and dealer websites for about 3 months. You have to be careful for scams. You have to be patient. Well I found the deal I was looking for and only had to drive 650 miles to get it.

A 2008 Ford F-150 with 128,000 miles on it. Perfect body in and out. Runs great...averaged 19.6 mpg on the interstate at 70mph. Cost was $2000 even.

The only thing wrong with it was the CD player skips when you hit a bump. So I decided to buy an aftermarket radio on eBay. Interestingly, most of the 2din radios these days are shipping with Android as the core OS. The Windows CE units are becoming rare...and cheap. This one from China was less than $20 delivered. Same as the newer Android units mechanically, just different operating system. Haven't got it yet...do have a China Post tracking number. When it cones I'll post real pictures and put it through its CE testing...

Well done, Rich. You're just missing a gun rack and a dog to run around in the back

I've always wanted a pickup,

I need a pickup too, to haul my dirt bike to the desert during the winter months (and to pick it up from my brother's place, since he has had to haul it for me when we go), and to haul some of the junk out of my garage. My girlfriend has one that belonged to her mother before her mother passed, but it's in Illinois. We're trying to figure out how and when we can drive it out here - we've been trying for three years.

I'm doing the opposite right now. I just bought my first brand new car right at the end of 2016, so for the first time in my life I'm making car payments. Big adjustment all around too - after driving nothing but Honda cars the past 37 years, I broke tradition because I wanted to buy an EV. So I became one of America's first owners of the Chevrolet Bolt EV. (Had to do something quickly in any event, with my 2003 Civic, which I'd been driving for 9 1/2 years, having over 350,000 miles on it and down to running on one cylinder. ) I truly love this new car, though. It drives like a dream, goes from 0-60 faster than a Porsche 911, and has a range of 220-250 miles on one charge. (Important because charging stations are still hard to find in some areas.)

I see I'm not the only one who actually liked the music of Karen and Richard Carpenter.

My, oh my, you are SO American!
Craigslist
only had to drive 650 miles
averaged 19.6 mpg (which is 23mpg in English)
128,000 miles on it

4 things that don't happen in Europe (the UK at least)

CEGeek, wish I had known that about the car. I was going to buy a truck in Bakersfield that looked good, but the flying expenses were too much for what I wanted to spend. I could have driven the truck to you from Illinois and then picked up the new one and driven back....

C:Amie, you can drive 600 miles...just around the island a few times...

Jake, has a gunrack, down load behind the seat to keep it out of prying eyes...and already have a dog...we've been married 42 years...

Nice Rich. I do not remember the last time I did not drive a pickup. I am happy for you. It looks like they took very good care of it.

Still waiting on the radio.

As good fortune smiled on me this past week I surfing Craigslist and found someone selling a set of 18" wheels with tires already mounted on them. The tires are like new, the wheels are the fancier Ford OEM from a 2010. Being from Michigan they had some surface corrosion from road salt. But for $200 for all four of them, it was a steal!

So the past few days I have been sanding and refinishing them...simple really. Clean, sand, degrease, wash again, paint, sand again with 500 grit, spray on clear lacquer, final sand 800 grit, two more coats of clear...

Tires have white sidewall lettering. Original owner had the lettering to the inside, so today I am having the tires turned around so lettering is facing out...rebalancing, mounting, air sensors reprogrammed...etc. Finished pic below.

I'm actually impressed that you knew how to do that with the alloys. I wouldn't have even thought you could clean them up.
