Okay, after poking around the Web I found some folks saying that having a firewall enabled sometimes interferes with the connection on some devices, even if "Don't allow exceptions" is not checked and ActiveSync Application and ActiveSync Connection Manager are checked as exceptions. So in desperation I tried disabling Windows Firewall
(the only firewall I have installed on the host PC
) temporarily so I could try connecting, and - surprise - it connected right up and synched correctly. Wonder why I had this problem with this one device when I wasn't having it with the mass quantities of other synchronizable CE devices I have.
I still can't get several apps to open, though, despite adding all the called-for DLLs. That includes a couple of PIM apps. cePIMS, PIM Today, Corncrake Technologies MyCalendar, ScaryBear Software's SuperCalendar
(old Pocket PC PIM apps
), Pocket Informant, PocketOrganizer 2000, BirdSoft UltiPlanner, and the first beta of ThumbCal
(version 0.01
) work. But GEmini PIMs isn't opening, and Pocket On-Schedule is neither opening nor synching thus far, and weirdly, in PEInfo both report problems with mfcce400.dll and olece400.dll despite both files being present and the same files not preventing these apps from opening on other devices.
(Of course, in CE 6 the device doesn't display any error messages. Maybe the version of coredll.dll just isn't built to handle some of the necessary functions for these apps.
) The good news is that all the databases appear to stay intact after reboot, as do the contents of all folders including \Windows and its subfolders.
