I'm still running my old Gateway E4610S low profile desktop with dual DVD writers in a single 5.25" slot. And while I have an external USB floppy, I thought this was just too cool to pass up, even if it is USB 2.0.

Only $19 delivered...eBay of course. But how cool is it to have a floppy and card reader combined? Right now I have a card reader with 4 USB 3.0 ports in the 3.5" bay. And I have 2 USB 2.0 ports on the right front of the machine that are connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. So I'm going to use those 2 on the right as USB 3.0 by simply unplugging the card reader from the pci card and plugging it into the factory ports instead.

That's pretty cool! Can't beat the price either.

...and since we're on the topic of couldn't resist...

I picked up an old PowerMac G5 tower (1.6ghz, 4GB ram, 80GB HD) with keyboard, 1 TB usb HD, retail MS Office 2008, retail Adobe CS4 (photoshop, illustrator, etc), Xcode and MacOSX 10.5 Leopard for... get this... $50.00! locally on craigslist. Better yet, she delivered it to me at work.

I've had it about 3 weeks now. Wiped it clean and started fresh. Amazed to see so many people trying to keep the old ppc's alive with updated versions of webkit and firefox releases, macports, tigerbrew (port of homebrew), etc. I'm actually using it as my daily machine now and it handles everything quite nicely yet.

Cheers

Nice to hear from you again, RTFM.

Now, if someone could write CE drivers for it, we'd be all set.

Sweet RTFM. I've owned many a Mac in my lifetime but never had one with OSX. Actually still have all my Clariswork CDs from the early '90s

Hey, RTFM! Give us a quick fill-in--what are you hacking these days?

Nice pick-up, Rich.

Thanks CE Geek. Been a little preoccupied the last couple years. ;-)

Rich, OSX is pretty nice. Seems like the perfect balance between windows and linux. Ease of use with a solid BSD subsystem.

SOLIDUS, yeah very sweet deal indeed. The 1TB external hard drive alone was worth it.

thcrw739, Hello sir. It indeed has been a while.

Jake, only hacking up lungs these days. Should really quit smoking. Lol. I may join in on the macports effort. Seems like it'd be fun building up to date packages for an unsupported platform from apple. Still quite a few owners of these beasts out there.

Cheers.
