This is a great forum. I wanted a tablet pc of some kind and after doing a bit of research decided to gamble and bought a new Neta 980 from the manufacturer on eBay. I chose the Neta because the dock was included. Having never used any kind of handheld I relied heavily on this forum in my planning.

I really like this Neta 980. It feels solid in my hands. Doesn't feel like cheap plastic. The 10.4" screen is pretty good. Futurecomglobal sells 5 every week on eBay for $250 new. I was anticipating some real hardware issues but so far it has been encouraging. There are plenty of ports on the dock. USB keyboard was plug n play into the dock.

As far as software I have installed quite a few apps. Most of the apps with Cabs labeled ARM and\or SA1100 work just fine. Battery life on this thing seems pretty decent. I have pulled it out of the cradle several times and after 1 to 1 1\2 hour use I am still in the 70% range.

Stuff I sorted out... Wireless & RDP
I tried a Sandisk WIFI +128 MB CF card but wasn't able to get the wifi working. It may work but I finally gave up. I may try again later. I really wanted to run the Sandisk so I could put a Toshiba 5GB Datapak in the PCMCIA. When the Sandisk failed I picked up a Macsense WPE-700 for $9.90 at Fry's which uses a Prism 2 chipset (great reference here http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/SenaoCard ). Thanks to the driver cmonex provided on another thread I got it working! Seems like I had 64 bit wep working at one point but no longer.

After a bit of reading I got my settings right and have Remote Desktop Working. I also implemented multilogon RDP. That RDP is cool. With my wireless connection I can browse my desktop from the tablet and it is very fast. In fact the RDP browse is faster than the native IE 5.5 Neta browser. I installed ftxPBrowser, PHM Regedit, Pocket Hosts, ResInfo, TasccalCalc, Textmaker, Total Commander, Simcity 2000, SolitairePack. They all appear to work fine. Many of course have failed.

Stuff I can't figure out... Wireless Sync
I have wifi working (more on that below), but I can't seem to figure out how to sync wirelessly. I sync fine via USB, but can't wirelessly. I have Activesync 3.8 0n my desktop. Do I need Activesync or a similar product on my 4.1 Device? I read a couple of the guides here but they were of no use, as my TCP\wireless is set up correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have MS FreeCell & Solitaire working on CE.Net 4.1? They were not on the device and I can't seem to get them to work.

Has anyone had any success getting a PCMCIA 5GB Datapak to work on a CE 4.1 device like this. The CE Storage Manager sees a gig of it but can't seem to do much with it. Won't format it and I can't tell if there is a way to map it. I'll look at that some more later but will take any advice.

Thanks to cmonex, for the link to this CE.Net 4.1 driver - http://download.eagletec.com/ET-CWB1000/ET-CWB1000PocketCE4.exe

Nice forum. Glad to be here. Thanks banacek

Newbie too! I bought a neta 985 off ebay as well. Know my way around notebooks but have zippo knowledge on CE 4.1. My got up and running without problems right out of the box.. Was able to connect to the home network almost instantly as the wifi immediately recognised the network.

My challenge is understanding two things you spoke of, getting programs onto the unit. And communication with my notebook. Apparently, from your comments I need to get ahold of a sync program, (thought this would be included on tablet.) I want to install GPS mapping and GPS and I am having a challenge identifying what programs work with ce.net (4.1).

I can't help you much, but maybe you can direct me.

if it is really the 985 model then that's your problem. it uses an x86 cpu... your problem with compatibility is not CE.net, it is the CPU type. you need to find apps that have x86 versions. somewhere on this forum you can find an exhaustive list of compatible apps (search for x86 or something).
of course the apps need to be compiled for hpc's as well. hpc pro, hpc2000 etc. NOT windowsmobile/pocketpc!

sync: download MS Activesync 3.8 (free) for your PC.

gps soft: if any of them have an x86 version you have a chance...

Thanks for the insight, though disappointing. At least I know the direction now to start looking. Appreciate your time and response.

I am thinking of buying a Neta 985 from ebay. I need to log serial input from two remote sensors. I havent got the faintest idea if it is possible. I would say I am working my way UP to being a newbie... If anyone couild let me know how smart or stupid I am, I would appreciate the input. I do have viasual studio.net, but I aint smart enough to get that to work, either

you would have more chance to do this task if you get a neta 980, the 985 has an x86 cpu and few programs are available for that.

Just to add a bit to the whole NETA 980 experience, I purchased one and have had a few problems. First unit was defective out of the box. The replacement worked unit recently when the battery went bad. I discovered that not only was the battery not covered under the warranty, but since did not return the warranty card within 14 days of purchase, I have no warranty.

This is what the warranty card states:

Quote
“You must register your product within fourteen (14) days of purchase to ensure protection under this limited warranty. Registration form must be filled-out completely; incomplete registration forms may not be processed.”

According to Ms. Kimberly Kelly, a woman claiming to be the sole proprietor of the company, this means if you do not return the warranty card in the allotted 14 days, you have no warranty.

A refund was offered after much discussion and a case-by-case support was offered, but how trustworthy is a company that voids a warranty over not returning a card used for marketing and not using the purchase invoice?
