So there has been an interesting thread on opening a new 720...

Since "new" is a somewhat relative term... Let's see what your Jornada's Born on Date is!

To find out your Jornada's BOD, soft reset and immediately press S to enter into Diagnostics. Check the EEPROM box and tap One Loop. In the dialog box at the right, you will see a BOD=DD/MM/YYYY

So let's see who's was born first!

Boris was born 18/02/2002

He is one of the last production runs....

There must be something wrong with that feature as one of my J720s' BOD is.... 06/01/2013 (sic!)- the other one says 26/06/2000...
Back to the future :-D

OK. i knew something was wrong with it. maybe the eeprom can get corrupted or the hp technicians were in such a mood to joke about this?

i saw a j720 which told me january 2000.. no way, they weren't in production at that time yet unless i'm wrong (clinton, can you prove me wrong with that original invoice from 1999? thanks )

another j720 told me july 2004. whew. that j720 was partially a j728 though. (more of a 720 than of a 728, sadly)
but production of the j728 was stopped in 2003... afaik

07/02/2005... sounds highly unlikely. Diagnostic build was Jul 15 2000 which sounds a lot more realistic.

if you mean diagnostic build by "Build", then thats no good. i changed the ROM in my first j720 to a j728 rom and now it reports Apr 10 2002 and ABA USA build while my j720 is originally an int'l english ABB. sooo. it shouldn't change just because i changed ROM's! the BOD didn't change btw.

Uh oh!

Mine was born on 12/07/2001 (If read as mm/dd/yyyy - American dating).

Its easy to remember because it is "Pearl Harbor Day."

DG

I never knew this existed... More fun stuff!

The Diagnostics build is completely different than the BOD.

Not a lot of people do know that this exists so you aren't alone.

I can't post the information until I have named my 720s And my other hpcs for that matter.

Only my 6651s have names. Tigger and Pooh. Both named after pets that put up with me for a long time.

Moe, Curly and Larry. If I ever get a 4th I'll name it Shemp.

There, I've settled on names for my 720s. Now, how to tell them about at first glance? I don't know, you have any ideas?

Moe: 16/11/2001, built on a Friday

Curly: 16/10/2001, built on a Tuesday

Larry: 12/10/2000, built on a Sunday, what the heck? Blasphemy

You know what they say about stuff built on Fridays or Mondays....
