According to TCPMP the speed of my 900c processor is not 400Mhz but only 340 Mhz. If I use xclkcfg2, and I set the speed to 472Mhz, TCPMP reports only 413Mhz...
Between those 2 modes, there is a significant speed improvement; an FLV video encoded with 706Kbits/sec is choppy with the default clock speed, but very nice with the 413 Mhz overclocking (yes, TCPMP can now play Flash video files - see my HPC Media Player thread). I can clearly see the difference with my Mio 268, which also has a 400mhz processor: TCPMP reports a 400Mhz clock speed on the MIO, and high bitrate videos are beautifully rendered.

And why is Xscale acceleration disabled on the Nec 900c ? Normally, with TCPMP, you can choose Xscale acceleration instead of GDI or GAPI. So why not on the 900c ?

yeah most 900c's report about 340mhz there. it is to do with some config of the xscale on the 900c.. isotherm researched this issue months ago. we found out that hpc2000 900's do seem to report 400mhz. but once upgraded they are 340 (we did not check whether a bootloader downgrade changes that, simple OS downgrade doesn't). and, to make it even more confusing, i upgraded my first 900 to 900c, and it was still 400mhz. i checked that several times to be sure. but recently i checked again and it was 340. whatever
(it did play the videos better than another at 340)

no idea about the tcpmp xscale driver.. it would help lots, just as on my qtek 9000, if i set it to the xscale driver, it will play the videos much faster (almost as fast as a sig3, well over 1.5mbps).

Where do I find this utility for overclocking the 900C? And is it safe?

I have included this overclocking utility in my latest HPC Media Player Package (as a a separate CAB file). See my Media Player thread in the dev. Arena ( ver 1.05c).
Overclocking your device to 472Mhz should be safe ( I never overclock permanently, just for processor intensive tasks). Many people have done it before...

so can you underclock the 900c to improve battery life? (If you only need to use it for word processing.)

Yes, you can underclock it. I don't know if it will really improve battery life though...
