Description

PocketPuTTY is free, open source SSH client for Pocket PC.

It is a Windows CE port of famous PuTTY (free, BSD licensed open source SSH terminal for Windows). I started to port PuTTY as a part of my diploma thesis. After quite big success (10.000 downloads during 1st month after release), I decided to polish the code and open the source code widely to public. Sorry for the delay, but finally - here we are! Go ahead, download the binaries or the source codes and contribute! It is distributed under benevolent BSD license!

Requirements:
• Windows Mobile 2003 / 5.0 operating system (Pocket PC 2002 version under construction, unstable at the moment)
• 1 MB storage
• 1 MB memory
• Network connectivity

Features:
• SSH1
• SSH2
• Telnet
• Serial
• Tunneling
• Private key authentication
• Color terminal emulation

System Requirements

PocketPutty is freeware from http://pocketputty.aleq.cz

The PPC 2002 version of PocketPutty (release 02-28-2007)
will work on Jornada 720/728 with WinCE 3.0.

It does require the addition of the RedGear Compatibility Layer
(available for download from hpcfactor.com), and an aygshell file (see below).

Installation:
1. Extract the zip file.
2. Copy the resulting .exe file to a temporary file on the Jornada.
3. Run the .exe file. Allow installation in the default location ( \Program Files\ ).
4. Copy aygshell-D4C4F.dll to the same folder, and rename it to aygshell.dll.

Operating notes:
1. After initiating a connection, the terminal window will open.
If you see no action, tap once within the window, and it will wake up.
2 Note that during SSH connections, pages may be slow to refresh.
3. By default, a security key received from an SSH site will be stored in \My Documents\Putty.RND

Another version of PocketPutty, for WM2003, is also available at:
http://pocketputty.aleq.cz/download.html (or)

Installation Instructions

PocketPutty is freeware from http://pocketputty.aleq.cz

The PPC 2002 version of PocketPutty (release 02-28-2007)
will work on Jornada 720/728 with WinCE 3.0.

It does require the addition of the RedGear Compatibility Layer
(available for download from hpcfactor.com), and an aygshell file (see below).

Installation:
1. Extract the zip file.
2. Copy the resulting Putty.exe file to a convenient folder on the Jornada (eg. \Program Files\ ).
3. According to Executability Check, Putty.exe is looking for an aygshell file. However, on the Jornada 720/728, it will run without one. It also seems happy with any of the following (from the cmonex izemize site), aygshell-4AA1F.dll (7.5K), aygshell-A9171.dll (7.5K), or aygshell-82B85.dll (16.5 Kb). If you opt to add an aygshell, copy the file to the same folder as Putty.exe and rename the aygshell to aygshell.dll.

Operating notes:
1. After initiating a connection, the terminal window will open.
If you see no action, or if no Toolbar appears above the window, tap once within the window, and it will wake up.
2 Note that during SSH connections, pages may be slow to refresh.
3. By default, PocketPutty generates a Random Number Seed file, in \My Documents\Putty.RND.
4. Sessions and SSH Host Keys are stored in the Registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ SimonTatham \ Putty

This program is a Pocket PC program with a stub file modification for H/PC compatibility. It and the installation instructions were submitted and contributed by by HPC:Factor community member Dave Wurm.

The source code for this is now available either via the downloads section or via repository.hpcfactor.com, again thanks go to Dave Wurm.

I can't open COM1: at all with this. Using 9600/8/N/1 with hardware flow control as the serial settings in PocketPuTTY.

rcx_6000 my guess is that the problem could possibly be because Windows CE's ActiveSync has a lock on the port because it is monitoring it for an inbound connection.

You need to shutdown ActiveSync's daemon to make it work. There is a registry key to do this.

Hi C:Amie, I am having the same problem that rcx_6000 reported. I have a jornada 720 using a socket PCMCIA serial card. The built-in terminal program works fine. Using pocketputty says "can't connect to com1" I also tried com2, etc.

I am hoping you can direct me to a thread on how to turn off the activesync daemon. I've done some google searches on the forum and can't find anything (I could just be blind)

Thank you

Can you try creating a new forum thread about this? Perhaps someone has an idea
