Storage card name changes
or instability / corruption occurs after installing Windows
Media Player 1.2CESD-S-0080Applies To:
- Handheld PC Professional, SP1
- Handheld PC 2000
Overview:
After installing Windows Media Player 1.2 for the Handheld PC you
may experience a name change of any storage card devices attached
to your Handheld PC during the time of installation. In some situations
users can also experience general instability when using the storage
card as well as data loss and requests by Windows CE to format the
storage card.
More Info:
The Windows Media Player 1.2 release for the Handheld PC includes
Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Secure Digital Music Initiative
(SDMI) technologies which are designed to help protect copyrighted
material when played on the Handheld PC. As part of the DRM software,
the Windows Media Player 1.2 installation includes an updated Storage
Device driver to aid in the implementation of the secure technologies.
During the installation procedure you will have prompted you to
overwrite the ATADISK.dll dynamic link library file in the \Windows
folder on your device.
If you answered Yes to allow the file to be overwritten you may
subsequently experience problems with your Storage Card devices.
Solution:
Unless you are using a Windows based computer running Windows Media
Player 7.0 or 7.1 the DRM facilities built into Windows Media Player
1.2 are almost certainly redundant in your situation.
