BOCHS for Windows CE SA1110 / PXA25x DownloadCESD-S-0115
This article discusses the availability of a download of the binary and source structure for the BOCHS 2.1.1 port for Windows CE 3.0 and above.
BOCHS is am open source IA32 (x86 / i386) emulator. In 2004 Russian developer Mamaich successfully compile an ARM architecture binary of the project for use under Windows CE 3.0 or above devices.
The prototype build was more a proof of concept than a release product, however it successfully demonstrated that Windows CE devices had the capability to perform low level, high volume emulation tasks.
Shortly after its initial release, the distribution point for the final build BOCHS 2.1.1 was lost when the developers web site was unexpectedly closed down. For the benefit of the community HPC:Factor has made the package available to download from CESDS0115.
The redistributable has been repackaged by HPC:Factor to include information on the licensing agreement, and a stand-alone distribution inflator.
Compilation of the sub-distributable was not performed by HPC:Factor, and HPC:Factor provides no warranty against the use of these files on you personal computer or on your Windows CE Mobile Device.
The 1.4.1 early build of BOCHS is provided for reference purposes. Only the application binary's are provided for this release.
BOCHS H/PC Tools
As mentioned in the 2005 HPC:Factor editorial on using BOCHS on the Handheld PC. HPC:Factor has provided a collection of the necessary BIOS and image tools required to start using BOCHS 2.1.1 on a HPC2000 Handheld PC. The contents of the tool kit are freely available on the Internet, and its purpose is to minimise the time it takes users to begin to use BOCHS.
