Updating Microsoft Outlook 98
Microsoft Office Update does not provide automated updates scanning
for Office 97 and Outlook 98. HPC Factor is pleased to offer this
quick overview of how to update the security and functionality of
Outlook 98.
NB: If you are running Office
97 you should ensure that you have SR1 installed before using Outlook
98
1. Internet Explorer
Having installed Outlook 98 you should first update Internet Explorer to the
latest version available. Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 for Windows 95. Internet
Explorer 6.0 SP1 for Windows NT 4.0, 98, 98SE, 2000, Millennium and Internet
Explorer 6.0 SP2 under Windows
XP SP2.
It is important to update Internet Explorer even if you do not
plan to use it as your default web browser. Outlook 98 file components
are shared with Internet Explorer and the fastest and often only
way to update these files is to update Internet Explorer.

2. Microsoft Outlook Component Installer
Once you have installed Outlook 98 you can automatically check
to ensure that you have the latest version of the Outlook 98 components
using the Outlook Component Installer Site.

3. Outlook 98 QFE Patches & Updates
Microsoft have released several Critical Update QFE's or Quick
Fix Engineering Patches for Outlook 98. These should be considered
as crucial updates that you should install immediately. Ideally
these should all be successfully applied before you take Outlook
98 on the Internet.
