Microsoft Windows CE 2.01 (Palm PC 1.0) - Gryphon
Released in January 1998, the Palm PC (later renamed to the Palm-Size PC) was Microsoft's first break from the Handheld PC "Psion rival" form factor into a new mobile device market place, one directly targeting the success of 3Com's Palm and Palm-Pilot range.

Palm PC 1.0 devices were only available with monochrome
displays. Gryphon was the first Microsoft device to introduce the 240x320 QVGA display size, which has remained the tradition right through until Windows Mobile 2003, and is still common amongst Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.
