Windows CE Platform Builder 2.12 offers an array of new features focused on improving developers’ productivity and speeding time-to-market. New features include the following:

A kernel debugger that is fully integrated with the IDE, for easy debugging of the operating system and applications

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 browser software for Windows CE, which supports frames, tables, cascading style sheets, JScript development software, HTML 4.0 and DHTML. Internet Explorer for Windows CE allows OEMs to develop full-featured branded browser software for their deeply embedded devices.

Security features such as cryptography tools, for digitally signing files and preventing unsigned applications from loading, in addition to support for 128-bit strong encryption components

Microsoft Message Queue, a “middleware” software technology that implements all the network housekeeping of sending messages between applications

Additional applications for Windows CE include Pocket Word and an e-mail client, and support for ARM Thumb and MIPS16 processors is provided.

System Requirements:

A desktop computer with an x86-based CPU supported by Windows NT.
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 OS with Service Pack 3 or later.
- 64 MB of RAM is recommended.
- To install the entire Platform Builder product, you need 7.26 GB of available hard disk space, if your operating system (OS) uses the file allocation table (FAT) file system and 5.52 GB of available hard disk space if your OS uses the NTFS file system.
- For a single-processor installation of Platform Builder, you need 1.73 GB of available hard disk space, if your OS uses the FAT file system and 1.34 GB of available hard disk space if your OS uses the NTFS file system.
- A CD-ROM drive that is compatible with the Multimedia Desktop Computer Specification.
- A monitor with VGA or higher resolution. Super VGA is recommended.
- A Microsoft mouse pointing device or compatible pointing device.
- A bi-directional parallel port is recommended.
- A serial port or Ethernet network card for debugging support. A local area network (LAN) hub is recommended.

Installation Instructions:

To install Platform Builder

1. Log on to the development workstation with Windows NT administrator privileges.
2. Run the Setup.exe application from the root directory on the Platform Builder CD 1.
3. When the Welcome dialog box is displayed, follow the on-screen instructions.

To reduce the installation size of Platform Builder, you can clear the microprocessors that you do not need in the CPU Selection dialog box and clear options in the Custom Options dialog box. To access the Custom Options dialog box, choose the Options button in the CPU Selection dialog box.
