Microsoft Outlook 98 is Microsoft's premier messaging and collaboration client. It combines the leading support for Internet standards-based messaging systems, including Microsoft Exchange Server with integrated calendar, contact, and task-management features. Outlook makes it easy to:

Outlook 98 helps users communicate with others through e-mail, telephone, group scheduling and real-time NetMeeting conferencing software. Outlook helps users share information with others through Internet connectivity, Microsoft Exchange Server public folders, electronic forms, and as a component of customized collaborative solutions. Outlook integrates and organizes all this communication and shared information in one application.

Microsoft Outlook 98 is an important product upgrade that is arriving at a time of significant change in the way individuals and organizations work together. Outlook 98 contains new technologies that enable the use of the Internet for collaboration, information sharing, and business solutions. Outlook, teamed with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Internet Explorer, provides an integrated suite of tools for personal productivity and for managing all your personal, group, and Internet information from e-mail, contacts, and schedules to Web pages, favorites, and channels. This functionality is essential to building virtual teams within an organization and in connecting organizations to their customers in powerful extranet business solutions. Outlook 98, Office 97, Internet Explorer 4.0, and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 are innovative technologies that work together to bring you the power of Internet communication and collaboration.

Outlook 98 requires and will install some components of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01. If you have Internet Explorer 3.0 on your computer when you install Outlook 98, it will be automatically upgraded to Internet Explorer 4.01. However, you don't need to use Internet Explorer as your default browser in order to use Outlook 98.

Outlook 98 and Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 and Service Release 2
Microsoft strongly recommends that Office 97 users install the downloadable Office 97 SR-1 Patch prior to installing Outlook 98. Upgrading to Office 97 SR-1 after installing Outlook 98 requires a full reinstallation of Office 97 SR-1. You do not need to upgrade to Office 97 SR-2 before installing Outlook 98.

If you already have Internet Explorer 4.01 installed, avoid reinstalling Internet Explorer 4.01 during Setup by choosing "Upgrade only newer components" when prompted at the end of the first Setup screen.

Memory Requirements. 8MB RAM for Windows 95, 16MB RAM for Windows NT 4.0
Installation Options and Sizes
There are three installation options for Outlook 98:


Minimum. Installs core Outlook 98 files (including Internet Explorer 4.01, Microsoft VM for Java, and multimedia enhancements.) Recommended for users who have hard disk space constraints.
Standard. Installs everything included with Minimum, plus the Outlook Help files. This is our recommended installation option.
Full. Installs everything included with Standard, plus Database Converters, Development Tools, Microsoft NetMeeting , and Outlook enhancements (Office sounds, animated cursors, Lotus Organizer converter.) Recommended for developers.

Your computer has one of three configurations:


Internet Explorer 4.01 and Outlook 97 already are on your computer.
Internet Explorer 4.01 (but not Outlook 97) is already on your computer.
Neither Internet Explorer 4.01 or Outlook 97 is on your computer.
Depending on your configuration, the hard drive space required for installation of Outlook 98 will vary. Please note your configuration when using the chart below.
