Will linux install on a ce 1.0 machine? I am thinking specifically of my casio...I think it is an a4...really old one but has a nice keyboard for typing, not bad for ebooks, etc.

The Velo 1--I have one--has a complicated, if not outright stupid, CF system. You have to buy an increasingly rare docking station that fits under the machine and gives you a CF slot.

Other than that, you can go up to an 8mb ram chip, giving most Velo 1 users 12mb RAM in total, though there were some Velos that came with more than 4mb default RAM.

But in the real world, a Velo 1 would probably have a maximum of 12mb RAM, some of that taken up by CE 1.0 ROM needs, and I don't know if it's enough to run Linux.

Jake

Edit: Wait, it occurs to me that the Velo 1 has two RAM slots, which would obviously increase RAM potential. I forgot about the second slot for a moment, since I use that for the CE 2.0 upgrade chip.

the velo 1 has a RAM and a ROM slot. it can have 8MB built in RAM (mine is 4), so maybe 16 max. the ROM slot is a proprietary one, needs a driver install (trueffs?) before using it.

That's right--there's a slot for each. You can tell it's my least favorite of my HPCs. If I'm working with CE 2.0, I'll use a Sharp Mobilon 4100. I don't even know where my Velo is. Heavy, battery-hungry, screen too small for the case (Velo 500 fixed that, I think)--but fast.

Never did play with CE 1.0, since it came with the 2.0 chip.

hm... I was thinking of making a server with CE machine. Any Idea on how to make linux work on MC/R520 (Mobile Pro) running H/PC Pro?

I made a new thread, but nobody seems to be replying

I am still a relative newbie with hp/c's and a complete newbie with linux but I have found that the hp/c's don't do multitasking as a pc does so you may run into problems. It might be easier to turn a pc into a server for hp/c's. A pentium 2 or even P1 would probably do the trick.

Good luck!

Depending on what you mean by server, there are already web and ftp/tftp servers available for HPC Pro. Also, the telnet server from CE4.2 PB works on HPC Pro, with a couple modifications.

Edit: It might be possible to try to modify SQL Server CE 2.0 to run on CE2.11 as well.

I know there's Apache and CEHTTP available to Windows CE. It's just not stable enough for me. After some DOS attacks, it goes down, in maybe like a month or so.
