Hi, hope someone knows what I am doing wrong:
J720, Cisco Aeronet 340, good link to PC (Windows XP)
I can access the internet and Active Sync but not the PC itself - files etc.
I used to be able to do this kind of access on a LAN - - can I do this with my setup?
I have changed names, told both computers what the other is called, gone into the networking wizard on the PC (but it can't seem to cope with a non XP computer to network to)

Any ideas?

Chris

wow this cesd artice IS complicated for me.

anyway, here is what i did - just managed to do it now!

enabled advanced file sharing (refer to cesd - or: windows explorer / tools / folder options / view / don't use simple file sharing)
and i just can access all harddrives (default share!) without doing anything else (maybe you have to share a folder for it, i'm not sure)
then you type in hpc explorer or in any file manager: \\computer name\drive letter and $
for example \\mycomp\c$

it will ask for your admin password.

it's what worked for me.

of course if you don't want to access all drives, you just have to share folders. i have no idea if simple file sharing is needed. but that worked for me with simple file sharing.

XP Pro users has access to the advanced file sharing, and if you have it we recommend for security that you use it - on the flip side XP Home lacks this but operates a "on size fits all" approach to security, which users may not want. Instructions are given for XP Home in the CESD.

cmonex, can you tell me what you were finging unclear / difficult about the article? Perhaps I can clean it up.

I am still trying with no luck so far.
My Handheld just can't seem to find my PC.
It is all as per your instructions (which I am really grateful for)

I am assuming ActiveSync should be running rather than just my wireless link?

christips,

Instead of using the UNC machine name (\\server\) instead try the UNC IP address (\\192.168.x.x\) of your Windows PC.
Also please provide us will full details on errors and what is / isn't happening.

I had tried the 192.168.x.x approach before - still no joy.

I get a "Bad network path" error - check to see you have typed correctly and that you DIALUP connection is active and or your network card is inserted.

Could be some of the problem - is the Jornada attempting another route other than wireless network - there is no option in PC connections setup to change to wireless

Any more ideas?

I'm stumped and you are being very helpful.

Thanks

Chris

Look at the info screen and then try pinging your XP desktop.

That can't be right, you can't get a Host Name without a ping
