My Jornada 728 turns itself on a midnight wasting precious battery power. I have hear something about this before but I can't remember exactly what it is that is causing this. I know it has something to do with it checking on calendar events or something.

If someone could help me get this thing to stay off, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

From Henri Spagnolo's ever-helpful site:

"My Jornada is turning itself on in the middle of the night

For some reason, your Jornada is turning itself on in the middle of the night. The next day I come in and the green light is flashing and it has drained most of the battery. Why is it doing this?

Check in the calendar > tools > options and make sure the "show daily agenda each day" box is NOT checked. If that is not it, then make sure you don't have any alarms set in the world clock application."

I checked out what you suggested and no alarms were set in the world clock application, and "show daily agenda each day" box was NOT checked in the calendar.

I opened the tasks and opened the tools/options box and removed the check mark from the box, "Automatically set reminders". I have no idea if this will do the job, I guess I will have to wait and see.

Anyway Jake, thanks for the suggestions. If anyone has any other ideas I would appreciate hearing them.

This is an expected part of the POOM system on Handheld PC Platforms, the device's RTC trips a wake-up event so that the system can cycle the previous days events and load the new days alarms, events and notifications. CE effectively tracks 24 hours at a time in-process.

After CE has cycled the system, the device is supposed to go back to sleep. All too frequently though, particuarly with the 700 series the device fails for one reason or another to actually do this.

There are a number of third-party applications which can set their own system events, HPC Notes does it and I have a suspicion that CalliGrapher does as well. While these aren't set using the same applications, the RTC recycle uses the same POOM databases.

I've got exactly the same problem
I've done the same as you -- did it last night, so far seems to have worked.
12 mins to go till midnight.
Not on yet maybe we've fixed it
I'll believe it in 31 days!

My 728 turns itself on at Midnight when I have the Aironet 350 PMCIA card inserted. If I back the card out before I leave it for the night, it doesn't turn itself on.

I briefly had an NEC mobile pro that came with a software patch to assure that didn't happen; don't know if anyone ever developed one for the the Jornada.

OK the F***ing thing turned itself on again!
About 4pm? maybe before.
I have no PIM active, no reminders - nothing!
I'ld love to stop it doing this.
Can anybody help me do this in the Registry?
Simple terms please,I've only been into the Reg. once & I need direction.

Someone wrote a little program to remedy this problem and attached it to his post in these forums. This was quite some time ago. You should try to use Google to search this site using the term "midnight". I can't do it right now. If you don't find it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you when I'm back on my main machine.

NEC support
It seems to have worked!
It's the same platform, CE2000.
If you've got this problem, I recommend this fix
How do you get out of the "quote" menu?

If you have one of the variants of the Orinoco WiFi card and you've set the driver to keep the machine from sleeping while using WiFi, the Jornada will fail to go back to sleep after it's turned on. Or at least it will if it's able to connect to a wifi network in the time it's on.
