My suspicion earlier was correct, the HASH's that were sent out to AOL and ComCast users are now invalid, so I will have to send you all that email again - I am terribly sorry folks!

The problem is that I cannot do it at the moment because the mail server isn't currently connected to the web server for some odd reason :S

If it was that easy, they wouldn't need to pay you the big bucks!

Regards, Don

PS : The response time to posts has gone up considerably, and has timed out(?) the last two posts, although it has posted

Don,

The reason is becausae the http server that you landed on is trying to locate the mail server and is getting upset because it is not getting a response.

It thinks that the mail server is being bratty essentially :S

Yes, your post triggered an email notification to my Comcast email address which got through.

Thank-you sir, that seems to have done the trick.

I have sent any remaining AOL and ComCast users new verification codes, and I have sent mails to everyone who registered > 23rd with their code in it.

That should now mean that everyone has access to their verification mail and can re-request it if necessary.

Chris,

What symptom or symptoms would indicate that a new verification is required?

I am receiving thread notification email (but I haven't received a new verification request since you said that new codes would have to be sent to comcast and aol members), but I haven't yet tried signing out and in again.

Thanks, Don

New verification messages were only sent to AOL and ComCast users who had not yet validated.

Anyone who had validated up until that point will not be affected.

It has been a few months since this was installed, and I've had a look at how we have been performing.

Spam is way, way, way down, I've not had to delete anything in such a long time that I can't remember the last thing I did have to delete.

As predicted attacks on the registration system have sky rocketed, member registration is up, member verification of those accounts is only a fraction of the total number. Over all registrations are down, traffic is down, posts are down.

I have to spend a lot of time sorting out peoples registration issues and dealing with people who grumble about the registration system being there in the first place Something about freedom of speech usually.

Success or failure, I'll let you be the judges of that.
