News From The HPCNL Editor's Desk - Last Post Dated 6/2/2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted June 2, 2008
Well now I know how Rodney Dangerfield felt when he said - "I can't get no respect - no respect at all!"
It's difficult enough producing a newsletter for an essentially dead mobile platform, but it's pretty sad when the premiere website for Handheld Pc's - HPC:Factor.com forgets to to even mention the May 2008 issue of the newsletter.
Hmmm - can't get no respect....no respect at all! :-)
Better luck with the June issue - maybe?
BTW - Newsletter down loads for the May Issue were 5,597 - highest count so far this year! Hmmm?
Regards
John Ottini - Editor

| I am just a newcomer of HPCs and this site is the very first and best place telling me everything I need to know about this species. Been reading the newsletters and the backissues. Really nice work! I'm sure you've got a great deal of respect from your readers (I for one ). Please keep it up!

I thought you were supposed to submit your own news to this site, in case the webmaster is too busy with some other project -- did you submit the May and June issues? |

| Readers are encouraged to send news, of course, but it goes without saying that a lot of the news is supplied by C:Amie himself. As you may have noticed, when the news is provided by another member, he gives credit to that member for providing it. |

| Already downloaded and read. (I read the announcement in the H/PC forums on the Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine site. ) |

| Cool! Just reading it now.
I have a question though. I find that clicking the URL hyperlinks in the document doesn't call upon the browser. Neither can I copy the link and paste it (asking for the password of the encrypted PDF ). Perhaps it would be nice to have the links "clickable" or something like that? |

All the links worked on the original PDF I created and sent to Rich at HPCNEC.com
What are you using to read the PDF file? |

I was reading it on my Macbook with the stock Viewer (which I tend to use because it's much faster than Adobe Reader ). Clicking the URLs gives me a dialog box asking for a password.
Loading the file with Adobe Reader (for Mac ) works. Still some links don't work as expected, like the one on "Skinning".
Hitting it makes the browser go to http://hpcnec.com/cgi-bin/hpcnec.cgi instead of http://hpcnec.com/cgi-bin/hpcnec.cgi?fid=04&topic_id=1209235253 as written in the PDF. Or would that be some wrinkle in the Mac build?
Never intended to be a tough guy. Actually I enjoy reading the Newsletter a lot. You have put such a great effort to keep these old yet still very useful (and by now inexpensive ) machines alive. |

You are right about the link to the Skinning article being incorrect......it should have been (as you point out ) this -
http://hpcnec.com/cgi-bin/hpcnec.cgi?fid=04&topic_id=1209235253
Having said that, the link in the article does take you to HPCNEC main page, where you will have to select
FAQ's - Frequently Asked Question - What is Skinning? to get to the article.
Sorry about the confusion and thanks for pointing out my misdirection!
BTW - thanks for reading the newsletter. |
