I finally perfected an Orinoco Gold card using circuit board from one (Speedtouch) and case from another. See auction at

I needed this like a hole in the head, but couldn't resist.

Edit: Can you do this with a CF WIFI card?

Congratulations! You'll be the only one (besides me) who has a REAL internal/built-in WiFi for MP900C. Share your experience with all of us who appreciate the added built-in feature. I won't put more on Ebay as I have a very limited stock (of course, I'll keep one for myself).

Doing the same thing to a CF WiFi card would be very difficult, if not impossible. Unfortunately, I do not have enough CF WiFi cards to experiment.

I am surprised nobody bid against me to get this. I am guessing that this is due to just one of those times when hpcfactor traffic is low. I will certainly post my thoughts about this card. I bought one of your Speedtouch cards and have been very happy with it. (That is why I bought this one. I didn't really need it, but thought, "wow, Speedtouch speed, and reliability PLUS it's completely internal."

Thanks much!!

I believe they'll become rare items. It takes TWO cards to make ONE. Plus, trimming the circuit board, soldering an antenna, and exchanging plastic casing is not easy. You can imagine the cost of such a rare card. To me, it's also fun.

Could be a small business for you, too. (I may consider getting one - even though I have lots of Agere and Prism cards already - if you decide to make any more in the future.)

I made 5 in total. There are 3 left for sale. The price is $35 for US buyers and $40 for others. Shipping is included.

It's hard to get cards with the right plastic casing (ideal length, low cost). Basically, I used the casing from prism cards. Later, I may offer bare prism cards for free (only shipping charge $3 or $5) or only charge for an external antenna and shipping. At this moment, I do not see a good chance to get more of those cards.

Let's wait and hear what theoak has to say about the card I shipped today.

Just received this WIFI card, and I am posting this from 34 feet away from my router. It also connects from 26 feet away (out on my porch thru a brick wall). The signal strength is "excellent" or "very good" when it first connects. Then it drops to "low" or "very low" after a few seconds. This may be part of power saving, because even after I dump my cache and cookies, pages still load reasonably fast.

When I get a chance, I will test at a public WIFI spot, and report back.

Very pleased with my new "built-in" card. Thanks CAuser!

Glad to hear you are now using the 'built-in' card on your MP900C to post your initial impression! I (maybe others too) would be eager to read your further report. Real 'Limited Edition'. As you know, you can cut off the power to the card by doing a soft reset and leave it in the slot (No protrusion at all).

Hey CAuser, could you post a pic (or give a verbal description) of how it fits in a Jornada 720? Any protrusion? I'm tempted to bid and if I do, I'm a global buyer, fyi...

I'll post a pic to show its operation on J720. The protrusion from J720 is about 1mm.

I revised the listing on Ebay. The card is ONLY recommended for use on MP900(C).

There are 4 reasons for it not to be used on J7xx:
Does not function as well as on MP900C.
Fit the slot too tightly.
1mm protrusion.
2 3Com cards with retractable antenna work very well on J7xx.
