Hi all,
I have the opportunity to buy a siemens simpad and wanted to know
if it is possible to connect to a external (serial) gps as the PC card slot will
be being used by a wirless network card.

Also what gps software do you recommend ?

Is tom tom available for either HPC2000 or CE4.1 as the guy selling it
has both operating systems legally downloaded updates on a cd that
i can use to flash update the simpad.

Is there any advantage of running CE4.1 over HPC2000 seeing
as there are only pocket word, exel, powerpoint viewers on CE4.1
as opposed to full pocket office on hpc2000.

Also will properly written drivers for ce3.0 work on 4.1?

Regards

ce.net 4.1 has a better IE, better RDP client, etc (now i can't think of anything else but i'm sure there are other advantages - faster gui?). you can get even linux for it.
usually 4.1 needs a driver different from hpc2000.
but most of the applications written for hpc2000 (or ppc2000/2002 ) will work. (wm2003 will not).

overall the siemens simpad is a nice device (i've had the opportunity to use it several times).

http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1169&pos... gives you some software ideas to look at and there are Serial GPS adapters in the HCL if you need to source one.

There is also a CE 4.2 update:

Personally I think that the HPC2000 OS is better, but that's based on my needs and use. At the end of the day it's a decision only you can make based on what you need the device for, and what you need to run on/with it.
