Use this for the drivers in the ROM. It does work with 2.30.11, but will NOT let you scan for SSID's with PocketWINC, so you should use firmware 5.0.20 instead.

Hi

Sorry this is my first post on this forum, I have a similar problem I think, I have a Jornada 728 and two cisco 340 cards both work really well. I had to change my access point to 128 bit wep encryption to match the card and then go and change all the desktops and laptops to the same but it all worked in the end,

Thing is, I was given a old ipaq 3950, oh well thought I'll network enable that too, so without really checking I went onto ebay and got myself a pcmcia jacket which arrived a few days later, so I attached it and stuck in the spare 340 and guess what! it didn't work, no prinstalled drivers you see, so I went to cisco logged in and went to look for the driver. The most up to date one I found was 2.11 so I downloaded it and tried to install it guess what! it didn't work its not for ppc2002.

Unfazzed I searched google and got this link which takes you to a page were near the bottom are some links to download drivers - http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/sw-wireless2.shtml
Guess what! they don't work it just brings up a page with an error message.

With my usual optimisim fading after a lot of searching I wound up on an old forum page that had a couple of dead links and then this one which joy of joy took me to a download page - http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-ce21

Guess what! it didn't work, I was logged in at cisco as a guest you need apparently to have a service contract to download these files.

So just a little word to all those whose first impulse is to type 'go to www.cisco.com' if someone asks about a driver for a aironet card Please Don't you are sending people on a fools errand with nothing but frustation at the end of it going round and round in circles on ciscos useless website.

Anyway if someone has driver vers 2.5x for a Cisco Aironet for Pocket PC 2002/2003 can you please help.

Wow Patrick, I hadn't seen a picture of that card since my MS-DOS days. Talk about old. I think you would be better off just getting a different wifi card. The 4500 and 4800 didn't support any security protocols anyways if I remember correctly. Or maybe they did LEAP, but that was only at a really slow speed.

You might do as Chris says, try the 340 or 350 drivers...but I'm betting that the thing won't even work with Windows CE without a lot of manual installation changes...

You know what else...I seem to remember this wifi card has been discussed many times in the past on HPCFactor as well...did you try a search here?

Hi all, it's been a while since i've done anything with Aironet 340's, but from what i remember:

J720 ROM Drivers - Use 4.25.30 firmware (Will also work with 2.30.11 drivers, but will not let you scan for SSID's with Pocket WINC)
J720 "Latest" Drivers - Get the drivers for CE3.0 from the Cisco Website (after extracting you will use CiscoHpc3SA_a.cab), and use firmware 5.0.20 - you can then use Cmonex's patched magazine giveaway of PocketWinC to actually SCAN for SSID's

You need to sign up for a Cisco account to download anything - and if i recall correctly, i found the correct drivers somewhere unusual (under Aironet 350 for CE.net 4.2 IIRC). I have Aironet 342's which Cmonex informed me once are the ones that wil do 128bit WEP (see the reverse of the card), so all my experiences are based on these cards. I think "341" only does 64-bit WEP, and "340" no WEP at all. As the radio claims to be "4800" i would guess Rich is right in saying that cards labelled "4800" are earler, and do not support WEP at all.

PPC2002 IS CE3.0, same CE core as J720, so if you can find the EXE containing the CAB i mentioned it should also have one with PPC in the filename - i would guess that this is the one you want. Use something like Universal Extractor to get the cabs, and if this doesn't work try installing them on a machine with Activesync (there is a HPC Factor KB article on how to get CAB's out of Installers using these types of methods).

Hope this helps!

I sold a J720 a while ago with an aironet 340 (actually a 342) and wrote the following guide for the buyer:

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title="http://foulkes-family.org.uk/Aironet340-Jornada720.pdf]">http://foulkes-family.org.uk/Aironet340-Jornada720.pdf] http://foulkes-family.org.uk/Aironet340-Jornada720.pdf...

Maybe someone would like to make a HPC Factor KB Article out of this? I was going to go further and explain how to actually get the drivers from the Cisco site, so this would need to be done in this case...I can provide the original Open Office doc if someone fancies taking this on.

I've uploaded the drivers mentioned in the guide to my site, but like all things on the web, it will disappear eventually, so maybe someone would care to post it to something annoying like rapidshare or megaupload:

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title="http://foulkes-family.org.uk/340.tar.gz]">http://foulkes-family.org.uk/340.tar.gz] http://foulkes-family.org.uk/340.tar.gz...

It's technically a license violation to do this, so like i said, for this guide to be complete someone will need to document hunting down, downloading, and extracting the cabs from the Cisco site.

No idea if these will help, but you could try these:

http://foulkes-family.org.uk/WinCE-PCMCIA-LMC-v230.exe

http://foulkes-family.org.uk/WinCE-PCMCIA-LMC-v240.exe

They contain cabs with names like "CiscoWinCe2002a", so sound hopeful...(Also pkg_300.exe contains the CE Cabs for the 720 i mentioned before, but also contains things like "CiscoPpc3SA2_a"...Use universal extractor / activesync etc. to get to them. PocketPC 2003 is based on CE.net 4.2 so drivers for PPC2002 will not work on PPC2003 (at least that is the situation in HPC land for 3 versus 4.2)

Store 'em safe, as like i said, i don't wanna keep them on my server forever! I would guess the firmware versions also apply - you can get the 5.0.20 firmware out of the archive i also posted earlier . I haven't tried the ppc2002 drivers (no hardware) so you may also have luck with a later driver - In this case the 5.20.17 firmware may also work for you. Assuming the same version driver / firmware work on PPC CE3 as HPC CE3 you should be able to use the PocketWINC that CMonex has posted (you might need to "un-modify" it though - ask her where she got it).

The 2.30 exe is where i got the CE3 StrongARM cab for the 720, so if someone wants to document how you find these on the Cisco site, then this information pre-pended to my 720 setup guide could become a HPC Factor KB article like i mentioned before, and reduce the instance of these threads!

Although it's not a HPC, i'm sure there's others out there with PPC2002 in your predicament so do them a favour and post your results here or somewhere (assuming there are other sites dealing with old PPC CE devices of course).

Could it be possible that other people get involved a make nice and clear howto for their hardware?
In crisis period maybe we'll have more time, who knows

It's in the tar file on my server (the guide i wrote shows it in the folder in the screen grabs) - all i did was got it from cmonex's site at hpcmonex.net.

What i mean was that the guy with the iPaq would need a version not patched to use different DLL's, as it would run natively for him. Technically this version is freeware as it was given away with a Magazine (i think). Out of the WiFi sniffing tools i tried it was the only i could get to work with my Aironet 342 - and then only with the driver / firmware combo i mentioned before.

Just post the contents of that Archive with my PDF if you like - your archive shows some stuff that's already in my tar file...Will save me some bandwidth I'll leave it all up for a while in case the guy using the iPaq comes back (as he will need the PPC cab by extracting the EXE).

PS Well done on using Linux

EDIT : By including MiniStumbler in the archive, are you saying that it works with Aironet 340?
