I'd like to show my interest too, but I take it that it has already gone! Oh well, back to my MIPS device, that I can only just get into my pocket!

Edit: Hopefully not the same image that was repeated from the Auran TRS forum!
Edit2: It doesn't work anyway, both forums are different!

As I say, hopefully I can fix the digitiser in it and we can put it to good use here in the UK helping developers.

OK,

First off one more a big thanks to Niteman1969 for his generosity here. It arrived earlier today while I was at work, but I have it home with me now.

The device is a 728 chassis with an older ROM in it. It's well used shall we say.

I have experimented with my parts combinations and have found that there are two components which need replacing to make it work; two on a must have level.

The video bus loomb
The digitiser

Having said the latter, I did actually manage to get that working for a while, but in dismantling it and putting it back together again it had stopped. The digitiser issue is not in the controller itself - it worked with the digitiser from my 720 on it's controller - two screens side by side, rather ammusing. There just seems to be a short in there somewhere that I cannot poinpoint (yet)

I'm still working on the digitiser issue.

EDIT: Added photo of the Display Cable loomb (It's the orange lead that starts on the left hand side, runs the length of the top, down, wraps around the hinge and into the motherboard)

Nice pick! Too bad I don't have a digicam to snap pics of the LCD innards last night!

One thing common here ... the video loomb goes across the LCD panel. I just wonder why they don't just put the backlight inverter on the other side and the LCD control nearer to the cable going to the mobo.

That way, it will be only the cable for the backlight going across and possibly around the LCD panel ...

oh btw, the NEC MobilePros have the backlight inverter at the bottom, so their unit do not have flexible (Read: fragile and easily torn) cables/PCBs going across the unit.

hey C:Amie ... how about modding the backlight for a super-bright J710?

The PCB on the left is the LCD/Digitiser controller, the PCB on the right performs the step-up for the backlight.

There are several streams coming off the motherboard end of the loomb.

Motherboard > Earth
Motherboard > Right hinge > Notification LED (One in the centre)
Motherboard > Right hinge > Earth > LCD Controller > Backlight Controller > Feedback return > motherboard

yep im afraid that i got the item from ebay as part of an auction for 2 non-working 728's

That one had obviously been dropped at some point.
Hence the broken screen.

One had a bad battery - and no charger - which I replaced with my 680's battery
and it powered on right away. - cosmetically it too has had heavy use.

The one you have there is the one that had a broken screen - so I swapped roms
with my J710 and have a very clean J710/J728 hybrid - all works fine.

Unfortunatley putting in the 680 screen didn't help that one which is why I offered
it on here for somone to have - that might have better knowledge on how to get it
going.

Very Strange about that short. i suggest maybe insulating the metal pieces that
go under the pcb's from the screen.

Regards
