My 720 (called Little One, partly because she looks like a little version of my old laptop, and partly for Trekkie reasons ) was apparently born on 15/5/03, so she's Taurean and apparently shares a birthday with a load of people I've never heard of (or know very little about) including a Slovakian astronomer from the 1700s called Maximilian Hell (?!?), a few football/soccer players, tennis player Andy Murray, and Rob Bowman who used to direct Star Trek TNG and X Files (both good).

Not sure how likely it is that she really is from as recently as 2003 as I'm not exactly a Jornada expert...

My J728 has a BOD of 28/10/2005, which seems surprisingly late to me.

Hi everybody!
On my new eBay purchased Jornada 728 the BOD is displayed as 04/01/2011!!! This is actually the date that I received it and started it up. Very odd, isn't it? Is it any other test that I can do to get more info on the BOD?
If not am I entitled to claim that I have the newest possible Jornada 728 here on the forum.....;-)

My 728 joined the living on December 14, 2002.
I thought it was older (sorry, darling).

It'd interesting to see the image indicating BOD as 04/01/2011.

Hi CAuser, I will attach a photo, it's pretty big (2MB), hope that the site will accept it. If not I will find another way.
I did not check the BOD again after the 4th of January, so a nasty thought crossed my mind - what if this time will show a different BOD? But it showed again 04/01/2011 just like the other time. Don't know how to do a screen capture in this testing mode. Do you?
Any explanation for that? Or any idea for further tests?

Edit1: The site does not accept more than 100KB, so I have uploaded only a small area of the original picture. I'll try to PM you the original picture.
Edit2: Hm, it doesn't work. Did not know it is not possible to send attached files over PM. CAuser, if interested, then you'll have to send me an e-mail address.

Yes, you are right. On the back of my J782 at the bottom right hand side it is screen-printed "Hewlett-Packard CO. 2002", just like on my J720 it shows "Hewlett-Packard CO. 2000".

Of course it is a born-again J728. I purchased it on e-bay just before Christmas and received it and poered it up on the 4th of January 2011. It looks pretty new to me, so I was wondering "how come"?

A few month ago I was reading that the HP obligations of keeping spare parts for Jornadas have come to an end (after 7-8 years from the production stop), consequently the spare units, kept for spares were brought on the market.

This explains why my unit looks as good as new, but does not explain the BOD.

Actually can somebody confirm that the displayed BOD on the Jornada is the date of powering up the unit by the user? I was expecting that at least for the normal production all units were submitted to functional tests, hence the BOD is the date of leaving the production line.

But what about my case? Did somebody replace anything on my unit and did not check it before selling?

I would be more inclined to say that a number of untested units were leaving the HP production line for being kept as spares, this seems more plausible. What do you think?

My Jornada is showing 06/01/2003. It must have been NOS (New Old Stock).
