Windows 3.0 maybe? Runs on my 200LX with instant-on.
Viz:

Real (mode) Windows on a 640x200, 5" monochrome screen
(Not that I ever use it, but I know some people do)

Wow, I'm glad I brought this thread up. Before I decided on the MP700, I did a whole whack of research re: portable daytime computing. I found this /. article a nice summation of many things I found in my travels...
"A Cheap and Portable Word Processor" - http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/05/05/24/190236.shtml

The only recent computer released that's b&w and meant for daylight writing with a decent keyboard is the Pomera DM-10, sadly only sold in Japan. Add to the fact, it is incapable of running anything else.

I wonder how well the Dreamwriter NTS worked outdoors or the Alphasmart 2000...and didn't Radio Shack used to make some as well? They were all designated word processors and you couldn't do much else with them...but still...if you want to type text....

It's true; the Omnibook series ran Windows 3.1 from ROM. No backlight though... otherwise it would've been great for me!
