There were no backlights on either the Sharp PC-3000 or the PC-3100 (same machine, a bit more RAM). Lots of info on Google.

Very nice, but do you have to be so rude?

This thing should run MS Windows 3.0!

I don't get where you find waxcarrot's comments rude. (If you mean "if you don't know this unit then you suck" - that was clearly tongue-in-cheek. Gotta allow the seller to make a sales pitch, don't we?) As for Windows 3.0, that might not be out of the realm of possibility, since Windows was subsidiary to DOS in those days.

I have a copy of Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups). In answer to BookWorm's question, some of the system requirements for Windows 3.11 (from the box) are:

3 MB of RAM, 4 MB recommended (with no network installed, requires only 2 MB RAM)
386SX or higher processor
VGA, Super VGA, 8514/A or video graphics adapter and monitor compatible with Windows 3.1

So unless Windows 3.0 requires far less, the 10 MHz 80C88A processor, 128 KB RAM, and 640*200 graphics won't cut it.

EDIT: Doh...... responding to really old post

I have two machines a 3100 (2Mb) and a 3000 but both faulty now. The 3100 was fine but a battery leaked in it and the txt editor now only partially works (backspace and return sends a tab) but the machine is fine otherwise. I stacked a 10Mb PCMCIA card to 20Mb and had a wealth of applications in addition to Word, WordPerfect 5.1, Excel, my compuserve emailer, FTP, client, web browser, IRC client and a comprehensive graphics editor. I also had some wonderful games including Sim City (now Social City on Facebook) and I had a Midi sequencer - Cakewalk - to run my music. I was also able to let my Atari ST talk to it under Ghostlink ( like Laplink) so I could port Atari formatted/created data back and forth without translating over Floppies. I still have both external floppy drive and modem... BUT a modern phone and cheap netbooks can do more, so is not used now...! However the pleasure in getting this developed up meant I learned a lot about PCs when was only an Atari ST man for midi. Ultimately the knowledge got me some prime jobs, culminating in UK PR manager for part of IBM and then, on the back of that, I retired early and moved to the country!!

A worthy £100 second user investment indeed back in 1995...

I point you to my webpages created on this machine in fact back in 96

They tell you all you need to know - and Yes Windows 3 does run on it fine and you can drive scsi connected items too... as I said = I even web browsed on mine!
