You'll have to hope cmonex comes around here soon - she knows how to do it.

Download the CAB linked below and install. Note that when it prompts for installation directory, you must manually choose \Windows, otherwise the CAB will not install. Soft reset after installation of the CAB, and enjoy.

NOTE: If you are using the Geared2003 or other themes, this will replace any theming for explorer.exe; you would have to modify his explorer.exe MUI in order to fix it.

I just installed battery.cab on my Jornada 720. While installing, I was warned that "The program is not compatible with the current operating system and therefore, may not run on this device." I continued with installation and sure enough (after soft reset) the warning went away. I was getting really tired of having to dismiss the warning!

Am I correct in that the backup battery is supposed to be rechargeable? Mine has no backup battery installed and if it is supposed to be rechargeable lithium then I might like to replace with an supercapacitor instead.

The battery is not a rechargeable battery. Just simple CR2032 coin battery that maintains memory during main battery swap.
