For all you HP 620LX owners, I saw these on eBay last week:

http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-F1793A-30PABA-Upgrade-Module-HP-620-660LX-Pa...

Ordered one (I offered $25, he countered with $40, I accepted), and got it in and installed it this afternoon. Seems to work well enough, though I've noticed the 620LX's processor may not quite be up to the task of handling the newer OS, as it seems a little sluggish at times.

Pretty pricey for just a CE 2.11 ROM module.

At his $89-99 cost? Absolutely too high, which is why I offered less: I suspect the whole reason he had that option is because he wasn't sure of the upgrade's value.

Since I already had a 620LX, though, paying his $40 counter-offer wasn't as big a deal to me, since it's still cheaper than getting a Jornada 690 (which is the next model up I'd have considered - the 620LX upgrade bumps its RAM to 32 MB). It's one of those "if you've got one lying around, it might be worth it to you, especiall, since I rarely see the upgrade for sale.

OTOH, I'm finding that 75 MHz SH3 might be just a bit too slow for CE 2.11.

Meh. Sorry about that - first time I've posted in this section. As for "FA" versus "FS", I'd chosen "for-sale", since it's an eBay Store item, and not an eBay auction.

40 USD is tolerable for the upgrade. I think you're right about the speed issue, though - IIRC, my Casio PA-2400W only runs at 80 MHz, and it's a bit sluggish even though it's monochrome. ('Course, I made it worse by stuffing the tiny 8 MB of RAM with a bunch of runtime files.) But even running CE 2.0, my 620LX is no speed demon.

I think that 8mb is pretty much the issue on the pa-2400w, the more program memory i give it, the faster it gets

I'm sure it's a factor, thcrw739, but the 80 MHz doesn't help much either. (My Compaq Aero 2180 Palm-size PC runs at 70 MHz, and it's pretty sluggish even with 24 MB of RAM. )

Definitely pricey. I just sold 2 64MB modules for J720 to upgrade to 728 each for $10+$3 S/H.

How about the 660LX? I think it would handle the upgrade much faster with ... 32MB of RAM!
Because the two units are soo similar, why wouldn't it work?
