| Thanx for the link to Digital Gadgets. I bought one of these used at Pawn America for $50. Touchpad very frustrating. The GE Ultra Mini retractable mouse works great with this. |

| That's an Anyka AK7802 netbook. There's no way to flash it with either Linux or Android. See here:

In the future, please do not post requests for technical support in the Reviews section. There is a separate section of this forum for technical support for CE 5 devices:

I also got one of these from CVS, Sylvania branded.
Question: Mine does NOT have a built-in e-mail client, which I really need. Could also definitely use PIM capability (Contacts, Tasks, Calendar), and it doesn't have any of those, either. Anybody have any ideas?
nPOPuk, link on the home page currently.
Thanks for the plug!
I have this same Sylvania-branded gadget; it works fine for access to POP e-mail while travelling and weighs less than some paperbacks I've taken on trips. The battery life seems short compared to my old Jornada 820, and the keys are too small for touch-typing.
One of my goals for nPOPuk on this device is to figure out how to have nPOPuk automatically turn on and off the WiFi when it connects. Back in the day, nPOP would auto-dial your modem (e.g., on my J820 ). The WiFiPower app has a button to toggle; I wonder if I can give a command-line switch -- or get Digital Gadgets to send me some source code. Edited by gjcoram 2011-04-05 10:28 PM

Rich, has your 10.2" version been reliable, or does it suffer from the OS dumps that my 7" Smart Book does? I'd really like to get a 10.2" model, but am leary, I'm afraid I'd soon own a paperweight. -Chuck
The Sylvania Netbboks don't appear to suffer from the OS dumps/crahes you write about.

How long? Most of the Sylvania Netbooks appear to be doing 2 or more hours if you turn down the screen brightness to about 50-60% The commonest reason someone calls these "junk" is they thought they were getting a laptop for $100
Sigh.

| Thank you for the review! While the Sylvania Netbook slightly different and appears to be fully branded with 2-4 different models it still fits this review very nicely.
Hidden in the bottom of the \windows area appears to be the software for a windows-based phone. Makes you wonder...

| Hello pc_sarosy, welcome to HPC:Factor! You really don't need to worry about having antivirus on CE devices. I do know that Avast offered a AV program at one point... |

| Maybe they are junks because e.g. for battery problems. But they are so (!!! ) cheap -
so I dont expect a great battery for this price...
But as far as I know they are produced by many factories in China.
If you look for one with Wondermedia SoC there is now staring with wm8505 and wm8650
the brand-new wm8850 for instance with Android 4.0 ( ) 1GB (!!! ) RAM and a 1.2 GHz processor !!!!!!.......
I think it is worth its price if you think a bit of the economics and the things you can do with it. |

| Speaking of batteries for the 7" Chinese netbooks, will we ever be able to buy replacement batteries for them? Surely there's at least some market for this. Do the makers of the netbooks expect us to just throw them away when the batteries dry up? |
