Guess what, the old problem: connecting the HP Jornada 720 via USB.

I want to connect the j720 to my Laptop with windows 7 Ultimate x64.
mobile device center is installed, my dell axim is recognized properly and sync is working.

When I connect the j720 a device pops up in the device manager. It sais, the device is not connected (unknown device).
After the j720 tries 6 times to connect, it disconnects and nothing happenes.

Do you have any suggestions?
Serial cable is not available, serial port not available either.

Dammit.

Let me guess.
It is not working with XP mode either, because the device has to be connected to Win7 in order to give it to XP.

Not sure what you mean "has to be connected to Win7 in order to give it to XP."

Activesync works wonderfully with XP. And to install XP, well that is pretty simple...you just pop in the XP CD and boot from the CD and it will then prompt you to format your drive and do a fresh install, totally obliterating any other operating system already in place.

For me, as long as XP is working, I'll never upgrade to another operating system...I cannot find a reason to do so...not a single one...yet.

I the past I have avoided this by using VirtualPC with Windows 2000 loaded onto it. Correct serial port assignment is crucial.

Not sure if VPC2007 conflicts with Win7's XP mode (ultimate & professional), I never bothered to pay the ongoing tax.

Unfortunately USB support was never made available to users of the Windows version of VirtualPC, but it is was with the Mac version before microsoft assimilated the product.

I'm with you on XP, Rich. 'Course, we're kinda into keeping alive old OSs here.

Windows 7 and Windows Mobile Center 6.1 are fully compatible, synchronized programs, files, contacts, tasks, everything.
No additional steps are needed throughout the program does

Hmmmm, I know that some USB enabled HPCs will allow a limited connection, but that web page states it is fully compatible...yet the NEC Mobilepro 900 series isn't listed at all.

Can anyone verify this? Perhaps v6.1 addeds some improvements over v6.0?
