Hello HPC users world wide.

Several months ago, I've made the online petition requesting for a Mozilla to be ported to Handheld PC device. Guess what? As of now: 6-30-05 17:56 (GMT + 9) I've got 94 signs! Thankyou for all the people who signed!

I've got some questions: What should I do with it if it reaches 100 signatures? Should I show it to the people at the Minimo? Or should I wait till I get more signatures?

Tsubasa k.

Minimo is now ported and working on PocketPC devices. However, it's still (comparatively speaking) a memory hog, and will realistically require a 720 or better to run (ARM machine, with 32MB of memory).

Now that the core is ported to WinCE, there is a chance to get this working on the HPC; I'll have a look at the current codebase and see what the state is, then update this thread as to what would need doing.

If it's just reworking the UI for 640x240, and more importantly removing any calls to the PocketPC-specific UI APIs (aygshell, etc) then we're looking good for getting a new browser.

Part of me does wonder if the best way forward for running Mozilla is to completely replace the OS........

wow =)

hmm, why is aygshell a problem? if you can get it to fit to hvga, then i'm sure no one would mind having to use aygshell.. not that i know enough of programming.

and yes i agree with your last remark about upgrading the OS..

Hi Chiark,

can you point me to the exact src files to download for compilation/porting? A few weeks/months back, I downloaded the ff code base but have no idea where to start. If you can point me to the make files etc, I could get started on it. If not, maybe some contacts or sites with instructions. Thanks!

Doug Turner is really the one motoring with this now:

Minimo precomplied stuff: http://www.meer.net/~dougt/minimo_ce/

Further information on compiling, etc, sign up to the mailing list
http://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/mozilla-small-devices

And the build instructions!
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/WinCE/build.html

I have yet to even try a build, but I suppose I ought to make time for a hack at it!

Cheers,
Nick.

I signed the petition, signature 108. As I pointed out in my signature, I don't actually think there's anything wrong with Pocket Internet Explorer (on Handheld PCs anyway), I just think it'd be nice to use something else for a while, purely for a change of scene! It'd have to offer some significant benefits if I was to use it instead of PIE full-time though (Flash support, I want Flash support!)...

If people want a internet browser is our last oportunity.

Do you want Mozilla browser on you HPC?
Then sign in the petition.

I sugest a mode to motivate people: only people that sign in will receive the first Beta versions.

The way you're talking, and trying to exercise some control, it sounds like you have a group assembled to actually write this?
