IE 2.0 on my MP700 can't access websites that require a secure connection, is there a way to either get a newer IE (or OS) on the MP700? Otherwise I assume some third party browsers must be better?

In any case I won't do much browsing on the MP700.

I'm afraid to report that the answer is no, there simply are no updated browsers for it that add functionality.

What about Conduits Pocket Browser? That worked on my Ericsson MC16 but i couldn't use it as it wasn't connected to the internet.

It isn't updated: no full http 1.1, no SSL, HTML 4 or CSS support.

I also seem to recall that it is for CE 2.11 and higher, not 2.00.

It's somewhat like fixing IE6 with Netscape 4

Version 1.60 (I believe that's the current version) does work on CE 2.0.

I guess I'll give it a try, anyway I don't plan on doing much if any browsing on the 700, as long as I can preview my webpages as I work on their HTML code in word (which works great) I'm happy. My websites don't use any crazy latest technology design code anyway.

Cool, I stand corrected.

That’s an interesting use of a 700. Brings back memories. Years ago, I remember Rick Hanson (owner of Club 100, a Tandy portable user’s group) saying he wrote code on a Model 100 because it was all ASCII and he could easily upload it anywhere. At one time I also wrote code using bSquare’s HTML Editor. I remember buying AstroHTML (an astronomy program that ran under CE 1.0’s web browser) and rewriting quite a bit of it to get it operational under CE 2.0’s web browser.

Have you tried BnkSoftware’s HtmlEdit? While searching for programs about a month ago to try on my PA-2400U I came across the original shareware version that runs on CE 2.0. Haven’t used it much yet, but it looks interesting.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be HTML editors for Windows CE, what exactly do they do more than a plain text editor?

Anyway for now I like word, it lets me open HTML or ASP files as text to edit them (it even lets me save as html and asp) and can of course cave them back as text.

aab,

h-bomb, htmledit, igteditor, all of them just make editing html files easier. They change font colors depending on whether command lines are remarks or formatting commands or data. They have html macros for common commands, some of them, like h-bomb have table creation support, etc...

And h-bomb is a freebie found here on HPCFactor is you want to give it a spin...pretty nice stuff for free.

But H-Bomb won't work in CE 2.0, because it's written in a version of Visual Basic that's only compatible with CE 2.1 and higher.
