If this eBay listing is honest (I did ask the seller if in fact the RAM is 256MB; she says yes), then we now have 10.2" CE6 netbooks with 256MB of RAM. This would give a big boost in performance. Has anyone here bought one of these? I only half-believe their claim.

It won't. Windows CE6 does not implement any smart caching techniques or any kind of SuperFetch which is used by Windows 7. I does not use swap files either.

Oh, I guess I don't understand this memory stuff, but according to these Microsoft sites....I don't see any reason why 256mb of RAM isn't directly addressable in CE6...at least in R3 of CE 6.0.

Here is what I know from experience:

My Augen eGo has 128MB and CE 5 and on some of my Word files that are pretty "heavy", Textmaker will croak and the system will lock up.

The same file will be opened by my Tinybook with 256MB and CE6.

I think 256 does make a difference--

Not meaning to be argumentative--just putting out an observation.

It's a good observation, however it exemplifies capability, not performance.

To be more specific, I'd like to be able to do internet on a CE6 netbook without IE bogging down (or in fact shutting itself down) when a website is anything approaching "heavy". I get a message that program memory is low, or else things just stop loading. Would having 256MB RAM rather than 128MB alleviate this on a CE6 netbook? If not, why would they be increasing RAM? Wouldn't that extra RAM be available as program memory?

I think I should have used the word "capability" rather than "performance". I'm needing to know whether the larger amount of RAM would make a CE6 netbook more capable of loading larger websites.

It's not at all clear that all these netbooks are reporting the actual RAM correctly:

Yes. I was once on some sort of properties display page in my 128MB RAM CE6 netbook, and it indeed showed that 64MB was available for RAM. I'll try to find that info again. I'm very suspicious of this seller's claim of 256MB in the 10-inch model she has.
