Hi.

I still have my Jornada 720 and thought about using it as a MP3 provider for my stereo (excellent sound quality but no USB or SD).
Can you tell me:

does the J720 have a good "audio-out" quality?
Can it handle big MP3 files well?

I dont own a j720 but my Nec MP900 had upper average sound. To test the audio quality i would suggest you install TCPMP and throw some audio files on a compact flash card and see what it can do by listening to it plugged in to some amplifier or something.

Thanks for the answer

Is there an excellent free software for playing MP3 easily?
Or is the stock Windows Media player good enough?

you should get TCPMP and i think you can download it by going to the downloads section and active syncing or putting the cabs on a CF card and going from there.
