I have upgraded nec mobilepro 900 hpc2000 to mobilepro 900c .net 4.2.
After this I have run the modem upgrade program for ce net: ComNET_50217.exe however I get the following error.
"Initial serial port: opened com4. Step1 Begin. Ati3. Patch B3-05-05. Step 1 Pass. Step2 Begin. The modem chipset isn't P2109-v90 type"
and the update application fails.

I have also done the same procedure by reflashing back to hpc2000 firmware and still get the same error.
I have the following systen information regarding nec mobilepro 900c (previous mobilepro 900).
Firmware version P530_42 2.02
Build Date: Apr 30 2005
PIC Firmware ID: 3.18.7
Bootloader version:4.10

Anyone who came up with the same problem and has a solution or can anyone recommend a solution??

Thanks

I just ran the modem update on my machine, identical to your except I have PIC Firmware ID: 4.16.7, and the update ran perfectly.

You may want to reflash your firmware to a newer version of CE.NET 4.2 and see if it makes any difference.

Hello and thanks for the reply.
The firmware is the newest/latest. I have successfully updated the modem firmware of another NEC mobilepro 900c using same procedure though the only difference is the Pic Firmware which is ID 4.19.7. (the one with the broken pin in the CF slot)

There must be something wrong with the update program or the firmware itself because I have already reflashed with version 6 of HPC2000 and I also have failed to update the modem firmware.

Sounds like the modem itself isn't present if it isn't updating even after an HPC2000 flash...maybe someone removed it from the motherboard. It just screws into the bottom of the motherboard. Or maybe it is simply bad. Have you checked to see if it works at all? It should even without the modem update. If I remember correctly, that was simply to correct a "speaker always on" problem.

Actually there is a problem with the MP. It is not powering up from the power cable. I am using it with external power charger and batteries. I dont know if this affected the modem itself somehow.

I will run a test to ring my mobile and let you know of the outcome.

Thanks.

Actually I disassembled and reassembled the whole thing (I will never do this again as I had trouble in connecting the display connector and another connector).

The modem is not connexant. It is actiontec
part no: 71-40229-04 and
model number LF560RK.
REN: 0.1B
Jacks RJ-11C
FCC Reg#6OHTAI-36163-M5-E

Do you get anything out of it? This must be an an early production in the product life cycle.

The modem works. I have sent a fax and also rang my mobile phone. Though the firmware does not get updated. This is very weird.

Must be your modem doesn't need the upgrade. As long as it work...don't mess with it!

Hello,
Yes you are right

According to the NEC support:

Question: I am having problems with the internal modem.
Answer:
A new modem patch to update the modem's firmware is available and may correct the following problems.
ftp://ftp.necam.com/pub/MobilePro/900/Hpc2kMod.exe

No Carrier detected.
No Dial tone.
Keep losing connection with the server.
Poor performance.
Downloads seem to take too long.
Note: This patch applies to unit in the serial number range of 30M9000000 to 47M9000000.

My serial is 4BFM900855, not even close to the range that applies whereas and in comparison the serial number of the one that I was able to flash is 47FMA00062 (in the range of 47XXXXXXX)
Thanks.

Sir I just now realised who you are. I am the biggest fun of your site. I followed your disassembled guide also.
